Are you guys oiling all the bare metal parts after the RPM?

I wiped down the back panel, as per the picture above with gun oil. Worked and looked nice. Mopar left it bare to rust, figured it was one step up. If you see my resto thread, my steering column shaft and coupler are rusting already in a controlled 35% humidity shop. Coated 9 months ago with RPM.

You can also buy the correct cosmoline in 5 gallon "cans" .

I’ve never used the RPM before today. I decided to give it a go as ECS has a good reputation.

My suspention parts are all painted to mimic a somewhat original look. Not OE by a mile, but holding up well after a couple years.

I've gone through 2.5 tins of RPM and countless hours of warming up parts and coating! Should have listened to that Justin guy about 1.5 years ago.....

On a humorous note, the wife was none too happy about a cookie sheet of mopar parts in her oven today.

Thats a paint.....his is a good coating....

I attached the link above of real cosmoline....you can brush it on, smear it on etc.....The nice thing is you won't have to worry about a painted part getting chipped and rusting.....If you get some road rash on the cosmoline and rust a bit....Just take some steel wool to it, wipe it clean and reapply cosmoline.

You can get one made...there are several online sources....

So on the heater box bare metal pieces you are saying you used boeshield or gun oil only and that is the final finish? Or would you spray them with a clear?

Only minor surface rust after 50 years from Chrysler leaving it bare metal, I figured a wipe down with gun oil was good enough for my life time and the next two owners. Nobody is going to see it again until they scrap the car in 2100 !

Okay. I'm planning to soak everything in the evapo-rust today. Then I will look to get it coated right away. I was assuming to use a clear spray but maybe I will try the gun oil.

Where did you say you bought cosmoline? Where I looked they wouldn't ship to Canada. I have an address in Blaine Washington that gets delivered to Victoria. Would they let it pass through?

Ordered it and had it shipped to my F-in-law before he left Florida and he brought it back in the box of his truck. It's stupid they won't ship it across as a hazardous good, there are many worse things than wax and toulene going across the border every day.
