As I continue to clean and power wash the brake drums, the red is coming off and blue underneath is coming back.
Were drum brakes from the factory blue, red, or something else?

THANKS!!!

They were usually bare except for RR's which got some red. If they were ever blue someone other than the factory did it.

71 R/Ts were red, I believe that was a special case. I’ve heard and read about this before but won’t quote anything other than having two unrestored 71 R/Ts with red brake drums.

I believe if they came with factory mags, then the faces of the drums got a splash of red. If steel wheels, they were left bare. I agree that blue wasn't a factory applied color on drums. Even the red on yours doesn't look factory because it's all over the fins, too. My buddy's '70 Cuda showed red on just the faces. nstyle73's look factory to me.

My 71 Charger I owned in the late 70's had the road wheels and red showing on the brake drums thru the slots in the wheels. Pretty sure it was all original at the time.
