Forget ebay, have you checked out Facebook recently? There are a couple of Mopar buy/sell/trade pages on there and most of the time I look at the prices and just shake my head. I suspect a lot of it is people asking a top price because they know they'll have to come down, but you end up losing a lot of sales that way because most people see an over-the-top price and just move on. The days of having some resto shop, who's just got to have that part for a customer-funded project, and will pay any price, are gone. You now better be pricing to attract average Joe buyers or be the luckiest vendor in the country.

Another issue is all the people who bought stuff at the top of the mark price wise just can't bring themselves to take a loss now that the market is dropping. Sad to say, but they're defeating their own purposes because the number of people who want or need their stuff is dropping as well, and every buyer who goes for someone else's lower-priced part is one more buyer out of the marketplace. If you don't move your prices with the market, you're gonna be sitting on parts or selling for a much bigger loss.

As for NOS, I keep seeing ads for NOS decals, and I really have to wonder who pays top $$$ for 40-year old vinyl? It doesn't matter if it's NOS or not, vinyl doesn't hold up over long periods of time. It looks great when it's in a protective sleeve, but once it's exposed to light and the elements, it's not long for this world.

If someone is that stupid or that lame/frivolous, has more $$$ than brains...
Than I guess more power to them !!
It's also their prerogative to overprice parts, yes it is !!,
but is it really good for the collector car hobby/especially Mopars ?
Hell no it's not !!
Yes it's seemingly everyone's rights,
to try to list parts way over priced & gouge each other...
But why ?
It's not really good for the hobby...
Especially in the Mopar realm,
IMO we are already perceived as somewhat strange/cliquish,
by outsiders, why fuel the flames needlessly ?

I know I give far more away or vastly discounted price or
even just to cover my fuel & shipping costs, especially on take off parts...
Than I'll ever try to gouge my fellow FBBO members or Mopar people...
That's just me maybe, help each other when we can,
not everyone is in it for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$/greed or a job/living !!

Believe me I've spent plenty...
I'm not shy about dumping money into a seemingly endless $$$ pit,
I'm sure usually far more than the combined car/parts are worth too...

I don't build to resale either, I build for me & my taste,
I'm not going to try to, screw over someone that needs a part,
that I have just sitting around that came off my car,
especially those that I'm not going to use again, just takes up more space...
Or especially intentionally overpriced, that is worn used {the rusty junk, is trash} etc.,
I'd rather see it get used, by some who needs it, than make a few bucks...

PAY IT FORWARD, help someone else, keep it alive...

Nope it's still usually old worn out/rusty overpriced junk,
or just someone {greed} trying to get one over on someone else,
even if it is "their right to price stuff thru the moon"...
It's wrong, to condone it, never will... Sorry that's what I really stand by...

I don't complain about most pricey aftermarket stuff I buy,
it's usually way more $$$$ than OEM stuff,
if it's what I want &/or what I need, then I'll pay what ever I need to...
But some {if not most} of the re-pop & restoration, NOS stuff on especially E-Scam
"is freaken' usually ridiculously priced in the Mopar realm"
I know the regular spiel/bs, blah blah blah,
it's a much smaller pool of buyers, especially than the Chevy or even Fords,
but it's not that much more expensive to produce,
even in less quantities/less supply & demand, but it's merely price gouging/greed...

A big part of the problem is "Price point shoppers"
{usually by unscrupulous trolls, flippers/resalers, praying on others misfortunes}
that think their rusty old junk or worn out parts,
especially NOS or OEM stuff is somehow, now worth it's weight in gold...
But then the same Cheapskate people won't spend,
anywhere near what others price their parts at either,
even if it's extremely reasonably priced, they try to beat you down even more,
thane flip the parts on E-Scam especially...
It's a utter hypocrisy/price gouging & sorry to say, "it's just morally wrong"...

Mopar people gouging other fellow Mopar people, that just ain't right,
we need to be better than the rest...

I refuse to except it either...

I think a lot of this pricing nonsense can be attributed to those "reality" car shows where those guys brag about how they screwed down a seller and then gouged a buyer to make a big profit for themselves. The pricing / negotiation now becomes a dance of pricing high because you know some guy is going to offer a quarter of the asking price.
I have stopped selling stuff since the whole pricing dance has become distasteful and waste of time.

I think anyone has the right to ask whatever price they want for their parts. If the price is too high, don't buy it! No one can force others to purchase something they don't want, need or can't afford. It takes less time to ignore the "absurdity" than it does to post and complain about it. (lol)

I'm sure that the OP, along with many others get's the basic's of; if it's too pricey don't buy it. The issue with high/overpriced parts is if folks are selling and people are buying for those prices way up in orbit, over time that trends the market for those prices to stay the same or even drive higher. Right now there's been a ever so apparent trend of parts going through the roof, and not for the parts being high quality or rare jems, but more of just paying for a name. A couple of the big factor's in that are plain old gold chasing greedy sellers and ignorant and/or desperate buyers. That trend unfortunately roll's down to us average joe's that are not trying to flip, cash in or haggle anyone out of their bowl of porridge, but instead just trying to put/keep our pride and joy's on the road, and be affordable to do so.

I believe in capitalism, but there's a point where the folks that are stipulating market cross a threshold and morph there own golden egg into a rotten omelet. Eventually it will come back to bite them. As others mentioned, there's always alternatives.

The internet is a two-edged sword when it comes to prices. On one hand you can usually find a bargain if you look hard enough. Sites like this make it easier.

On the other hand folks can get screwed royally if they don't do their homework before shopping.

I was pretty amazed at the price spread on parts on ebay when I was buying them for my Roadrunner. I would see interior panels selling for $300 one day, then find another set for $19.99 the next day. The thing to remember is that in most cases there are plenty of parts available. A little patience and determination saves a LOT of money.

Wish I had taken a picture, saw a guy at Spring Fling swap meet carrying what looked like what was left of a Go-Wing. God Bless him if he can repair it. Wonder what he paid. Amazing what people will buy/pay.

From time to time I check the completed listings for cars. It's no surprise that the vast majority either don't meet the reserve or the minimum starting bid and do not sell. I suspect this is even more true for parts.

I was in contact with someone on Craiglist who had a pair of ported 906 heads for sale. Price: $1800. He might have that much into them and they may outflow many aftermarket heads on the market but why would someone buy them when you have your choice of Trickflows, Indy EZs, or Edelbrock RPMs for that price?

My rule of thumb for parts that are still available new is to never pay more than 50% of the new price for something used. Yet I see people trying to sell things like used intakes for $200 that sell for $240 new. Sorry, but I will be the extra $40 to have free shipping and a 90 day return policy and something that is brand-new.
