All, I'm replacing the foam & upholstery on my 70 Charger (Legendary Auto Interiors). I'm taking them apart and wondering how easy it is to remove the springs. There's some dirt under there but is it more hassle than it's worth for something never seen.

Curious what others have done.

Thanks
Ross

I would leave them as is.

The frame’s on yours look pretty good. Black paint and move on would be my suggestion on those. They look pretty good.

@Charles Cook put his frames in Evapo Rust to clean his. Maybe he has some pics. View attachment 1829237
I've soaked plenty of things in Evapo Rust so far. Have bought 6-7 of the 5 gallon buckets so far. When it slows down it's actuon, I add it to a 50 gallon barrel and let things soak for days / weeks - still works, just takes longer.

Thanks - was thinking of using the Eastwood rust encapsulator then painting

The real question is has anyone taken the springs out for that style and how hard was it to put them back? I'd prefer to remove, soak in ER then repaint; however, if it's a major PITA then I'll just cleanup & repaint it as is.

That would be real time consuming and a PITA, many of the spring are different in size. Probably not something you want to tackle unless you have to. The springs in the back rest are not the same either. I would not remove the springs. Post #3 is good advice.

Leave the springs. You might cause more damage screwing around with the. I had all mine sandblasted and powder coated.

From looking at your pic, you do not need to remove the springs. Clean up the rust areas, paint black, and re-upholster.
