Reducing Air Flow to 5 1/4" RO Scoop

Here's a few pics. You can see how the nose is bent down. This could be done on the sides as well.

Like I said above....I can't seal the carb, even with a drop base, because the carb sticks up ABOVE the hood. A drop base will not rectify that situation....and...I don't want to remove my 1" spacer as it is important for my performance. Thanks. mike

Mike make the hole in the hood a little larger. Chances are that you could sit a 1" air cleaner drop base on your carb. Then shape your foam to match the hood contour.

Thinking about your scoop opening and looking at your scoop if it was me I'd take a piece of cardboard and make a template to reduce the opening. Trim it up and get it fitting nice, then trace it onto a piece of aluminum. Make it in one or 2 pieces. Would be fun.

DVW.... You have your act together with that carb plate that you are running. Back in the early 70"s I raced a 67 R/O car and we actually used a large pizza pan with hvac tubuar foam around it to seal to the hood. Same theory. Last but not least, if your hood is raising in the rear put another pin at the rear center location. Then you will see how good your hood and scoop is mounted.

Like has been said above... open the hole up in the hood and give yourself some room to work. We run the same body and style of scoop. Mine is a 3 inch. Both my carbs stick above the plane of the hood and I made my old pan very similar to what Doug made.

With that said, I think you may be over thinking this a little. Here is why I say that. I made my first air pan too narrow. I lost e.t. and mph as compared to no air pan at all. I was trying to do something similar to you. I wanted to reduce the amount of air I was using in that scoop. I made my second air pan wider and it worked. It was minimally better than no pan at all. Once the foam degraded and needed swapping I just pulled it off and hung it on the wall of the shop.
