Hello everyone,
So, this has probably been covered to death, but I'm searching for someone who
may have had to deal with the same issue I have and can lend some advice. On the
'63 the motor has 906 heads, some unknown type of headers ( no markings, on the
car when I got it ) and Remflex header gaskets. The problem exists at the 2nd header
bolt from the front on the passenger side. ( See Pic ) It leaks. Because of the tight bend of the
header tube I've only been able to wiggle in a 3/4" long header bolt. With the gasket
and the header flange I've used up 3/8" of threads, leaving 3/8" threads inside the
block. Apparently not enough threads because no matter how much Permatex #2 I
use it still leaks, bad. I toying with the idea completely loosing the headers and using
some modified ( length ) header studs on the problem exhaust ports. Not really sure
they'll be enough wiggle room even with headers loose to install stud with engine in
the car. Any experienced problem solvers out there?
