Removed timing cover now advice needed

Still looks bad. It needs to be completely smooth no step at where the seal rides
Thanks

I don’t feel a step though

if I have to sleeve it, I’ll sleeve it I just don’t want to do it if it’s not necessary and make something good bad

mom I guess this is where I get lost

let’s say I sleeve it but turns out it was good. Would that damage the timing cover or create another problem ?

There can’t be any grooves, the grooves and the lack of a slinger would cause a leak.

I found this pic online and that’s pretty obvious

Is that a crack on the base of the timing chain cover? Make sure there are no burrs on the outside of the vibration dampener, they can cut the seal on your timing chain cover. As said put a little oil on the inside of the vibration dampener snout and a little grease on the outside of it where is goes through the seal. The slinger goes on so it covers the seal like a cup facing out.
Yes it’s a crack
I decided on ordering a new one tomorrow first thing

When assembling with the new timing cover, be sure to trial fit the timing cover on the dowel pins. I had an aftermarket TC that got hung up slightly on the dowel pin. Chased the leak for weeks. Finally pulled the motor, discovered the hang up & drilled the hole 1/64th larger. Slid on fine. Now that I think about it, back in the day, I used to use a deep socket, over the dowel pin area, strike with hammer, don't rely on the bolts to pull it tight.

Don’t buy a chinesium cover a good old one would do just fine it it’s in good shape... new isn’t always the best.

Clean that snout with some Emory cloth/ or 320 grit paper and see what it looks like. Hard to tell in the picture

I agree I would normally prefer original parts but this one won’t give me any confidence so I ordered a new one I’ll test fit it before

Cleaned the gunk on the block, cleaning the pulleys and a few other things

ordered the timing cover and the oil slinger so hopefully moving on pace
