In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
Hey folks;has anyone out there attempted to remove the air-conditioning ducting/controls/hardware from under the dash of a '64 Plymouth(or Dodge)? I doubt that I'll return the S.F. back to original,with the 318 and factory a/c(you never know;the thought crossed my mind...). It's a pain in the *** to get to wiring I need to check,the switches I need to replace,blahblahblah(we need a "violin" emoticon),and there's just too much crap in my way! Is this stuff riveted/welded/bolted/superglued in there? As always,THANKS!!!

Mods;if this needs to be moved to a tech section,no problem. -Al

Did you get the axle out?

:rolling::rolling::rolling::rolling:

Oh,sorry,that's another comedy. I'm waiting for a call from a guy with a later model housing that I'm going to look at and hopefully purchase. Still no luck finding an axle puller for the original housing,and I don't want to go the slide hammer route on those type of axles. If this housing works out(it's got axles and backing plates-I've got a c-sec. and can get drums,etc),I'll just pull the entire rear out that's residing there(all together now:"THAT sounds like fun!")-I may have to bribe the gf's son to help with that endeavor-and try to get something assembled soon. I had planned on driving this year;it's been one effin' setback,big and small,after another with this. I am not pleased.

Hang in there Al :) All great cars come with a little sweat and blood and some choice words but in the end they are all worth it! You have a real sweet looking ride there. Those 64s are a pleasure to work on not like these new so called cars of today. As for the AC you take your time and look for the fasteners, nuts bolts and screws that come thru the firewall and any under the dash. You might have to remove the glovebox to gain access to your control cables and wiring on top. Before you start working under the dash disconnect the battery for safety. You might have to disconnect your heater hoses too. If its not loose yet look for more fasteners. It is not as complicated as it looks.

As for the rear, I put a 1970 Dana rear(out of a Cuda) in my 64 polara. Bolted right up but had to use the rear half of the '70s drive shaft and the front half of my 64s.(larger u joints on the Dana rear and the 64's have that Trunion joint up front) Emergency brake cables hooked right up and a little modification on the brake lines I was good to go. Do a little measuring on both rears to save yourself any complications.

Good Luck and don't be afraid to contact:)

We are all here to help. Don't give up the fight:)

Make sure the a/c lines, heater control cable and heater hoses are disconnected. There will be four nuts on the outside of the fire wall. Remove the radio and locate the brace near the passenger side kick panel and near the steering column. Locate the vacum line junction and separate it. Remove the nuts on the firewall and the under dash braces. Rock the unit back while pulling back on the passenger end. When it drops about an inch rech up and unhook the defrost tubes and the rest of the ducts. As you work it out the passenger side be carful that you didn't miss anything thats still hooked to it.
