Removing the engine with the transmission attached

I know that on a 66 and up B-body you can remove the engine and 4-speed as a complete assembly. Does anyone know if you can do the same thing with a 64 & 65 B-body?

The four speed will be easier than having the automatic on there.

yes ... let's just say it's all in the "angle of the dangle"....concentrate your center pivot point more towards the front of the engine while lifting/hoisting.......and cap/bag that tailshaft closed!!!

If he’s got the flange on the tail he won’t need to bag or cap it. Gotta say that’s one of the benefits of that thing.

You might be able to, just depends on how clever you are and how many tools you have. I use a tilting plate on the intake manifold and I have an overhead crane so I can usually get them out the top. If I do it just right I can pull the assembly with the shifter linkage still attached. Dropping the K frame makes it easier. In this picture I pulled the oil pan for some reason but it doesn't usually need to come off.

Depends on the motor you are trying to remove.
No way this was coming out with the transmission still attached.

You can probably drop the whole kframe with motor (ideally whole front end assembled first, I didn’t do that but would next time - especially on a fresh paint and body job). This works for 67 Charger, but probably even better for 65 back I would guess. Note: I’ve never tried with 65 and back. The second pic is how the factory guys did it. All you need is a chain hoist and some decent buddies with a Jack.

Looks like 64 too. It’s not intuitive, but it’s quicker and safer. Don’t even need a hoist. Taking a 4 speed out on the floor isn’t that bad though, easier than 727.

Yes, the engine and transmission assembly goes into the car much easier from below but it does require some special fixtures and tools to make it happen that way. I've done it both ways and lifting the car up and away from the engine and transmission is very easy if you have the right tools to do it.

Don't know about removing but I did install my big block & 727 together in my 64. It went in with no big problems but I wouldn't do it again.
