I'm going to replace the rear springs on my 77 Cordoba. I have found the rear shackles and there's a variety of springs out there but I also need the U shaped plate and U bolts that are shown in the picture. There's a thick rubber insulator between it and the spring. I am looking to keep the ride OEM, not high performance or super stiff. The front part of the right spring is broken and just sitting in the hanger so rearcing is not something I care to do. I could use some help/advice here. Thanks.

The tech working this for me would rather replace them. Both he and the parts manager agreed the right one was pretty well shot, bad rusted that side's stpring is also broken where the front of it attaches to the shackle. The picture is the left side. The parts manager here said he can get the U bolts locally with no problem. So it's down to those two clamps/plates or whatever the correct name is and the springs. I want to stay with a four leaf spring that would be basically OEM height and ride. All of the rubber parts are in horrible condition, hard and cracked. We may have to "wing" it with the ones I have.

Can anyone recommend the springs I should use? I want to stay as close to OEM as possible. I don't want a harsh ride or the rear end sticking up in the air. Thanks for your help.

Could you give me the part numbers? Maybe I'll get lucky.

For your spring boxes, if they are rusted as in the picture below of the set i have not cleaned up yet, then have them media blasted and powder coated. There was some minor pitting but nothing to sacrifice the structural integrity. For the spring isolators, I checked Prothane and they did not list any unfortunately!!!

EDIT: you might try Energy Suspension, i know they make the spring isolators for new cordobas.

I will be damned if I would ever replace those isolators. I would convert to the earlier B body setup and be done with it. Those early cars rode great.

Thanks for the tips. The right spring is broken on the front eye and the spring box (clamp) has a crack running down the length of it on the side facing the wheel. I did find replacements from Wildcat Salvage and bought them. They could use some cleaning like you did on yours.

RustyRat...
I didn't know about the conversion option, can you tell me more about it?

Sorry I didn't get the part numbers to you earlier, but it looks like it worked out for you. Just in case anybody else needs them they are:

4014651 for the standard-4 leaf
4014652 for the HD-5 leaf

The rubber isolators are 3815207
