Hello,
I am getting ready to replace my speedo cable on my 65 Satellite with 727 push button transmission. How much fluid will come out? Do I need to drain it if I jack up the back of the car? Also, Are there any tricks that I should know about swapping over the speedo gear?

Nobody? Lol:)

You might loose some fluid so have a pan handy. If the '65 doesn't have the "clock able" plate at the tail shaft its just a matter of removing the clip, pull the gear off. There's an O ring inside the gear on the older gears as well as the outer O ring on the housing.

Great to know! So, I don't need to drain the fluid then? The new cable has an outer o-ring on it already. Does the o-ring inside the gear need to be replaced too? Does that o-ring keep fluid from getting inside of the cable? Sorry for all of the questions. I just want to be prepared and I don't want any leaks.

Remove the gear by removing the clip. (Note the orientation of the clip)

Inside the gear is a seal. (Note the orientation of the seal)

Part # of the inner seal is 2124328
Part # of the outer O ring is 2426332

Several places list them as a set. Ebay, maybe Joe Shusy. Brewers list them in this link. (Read the fine print, they are for '62-'65 727s).

That is a wealth of information that I greatly appreciate!!! Thank you. I guess I will get a new speedo gear coming with new seals before I change this cable. I found a speedo gear chart for 62 to 65 and it looks like I need a 19. I'm running 255/60r15 cooper cobras in the back which are 27" tall.

What gear ratio?

That's what I'm running with 275/60/15 Coopers. 27" tall. 19 was the perfect gear. I checked it against GPS and those electric signs the cops hang around and it's spot on.

The gears were pricey. Might want to start a WTB thread on here.

I see that brewers is selling them on ebay for $66. I may just go for that cause I need the seals too. Unless you know of a cheaper place or a place where I can get just the seals only and I can use my same gear? I didn't find anything else on my search.

I got the new cable in today. Everything went smooth. Thanks again everyone!
