Replacing the Fan Clutch on a 68 Plymouth GTX

Guys got a issue I'm not sure what to do with. I'm needing to replace my fan clutch for my 68 Plymouth GTX, it currently has the orginal one on it. I've went to Advance to see about getting a new one and the one that comes up the shaft is too long and will not fit cause it will hit the radiatior. We also looked at Sumit and other places and I cannot seem to find a fan clutch with a small enough shaft on it.

Has anyone else ran into this problem.

there is a Jaguar (XJ6 ?)clutch assembly that will fit nice and is shorter . Davies Craig # 2765

Your only options are the Hayden 2765, which works (although it would be nice if the mounting flange was a bit bigger diameter) or Tonys Parts sells a reproduction unit for $200 that doesn't look anything like the originals. Rumor has it that he is redesigning his to make it look more correct, and the new price will be $300. I used the Hayden on my Road Runner and so far so good.

Just curious...was the fan clutch an AC only thing or did non-AC cars have them, as well?

My 69 Charger R/T non- AC was coded for a fan clutch. Maybe it was only a 440/426 thing? I'm sure someone around here can enlighten us.

Non ac clutch fan here. Using a Hayden.

I just replaced mine with one from NAPA. Come to find out, theirs is made by Hayden as well. It was a little longer than the stock one as well, but that actually helped me in my instance - my fan needed to get a little closer to the radiator anyways.
(I have a 3 core Spectra Premium - usual application for it is c-bodies).
Excellent quality on the NAPA unit. Ask for the heavy duty cooling one they have to get the Hayden-made one.
