Reproduced vapor separator

I've had to buy another vapor separator for my 440+6. Just general maintenance. But are there better or worse quality replacements available? And who sells them?

I bought one from Classic a couple of years ago. When I went to bolt it on the motor, the welded on bracket fell right off. They sent me out another one and blamed the poor quality on being produced overseas. So if it was me, I would try to find one made in the States if that is even possible. Year One, Mega Parts, Herbs all sell them but I couldn't tell you if they are any different than the ones Classic sells.

This just came up in my 6-pack thread....may prove of some value to you!

The problem with buying vapor separators is that some of the repros are junk and don't work right. I inherited one with my car and it didn't work as intended. After asking around, I found out it is a reproduction with a faulty design (just for OE look).

If you look in the FSM for 69-71 cars it shows the inside of the vapor separator. Its more than just a can with three holes. It has chambers that separate the vaporized fuel out and sends it back to the tank while liquid fuel goes to the carbs. Some repops just have a screen in them. You wont know unless you inspect it.

Buyer beware, basically. This is one item where going NOS or OE is worth it.

I got mine from Bill Rolik, and the insides are correct. You really have to be careful that the separator is made correctly inside.

Another question on this. Is there another fuel filter somewhere along the line. Or is the vapor separator the only one?

There are brass filters in each carb also like these.

The vapor separator has a filter in it and is the only external filter if using this setup.
