My '73 Charger with 440 came with resonators from the factory. A some point, prior to my ownership, someone removed them and did without. I remember years ago my neighbor had an all stock '71 Charger R/T and I don't think it had resonators. Is my memory correct? Did '71 or '72 big block B bodies come with resonators from the factory or was that something that started being used in 1973. If so, why did they start using them then if they weren't used prior to '73?

Dunno....but C bodies def had them earlier than '73.

Purely guessing here but likely due to reducing noise.

I thought they used them in front of the machine gun tips but could be mistaken.

I am pretty sure E bodies came with them as well.

If you are thinking about adding resonators, I wouldn’t. A friend with a Hemi Roadrunner bought an entire Accurate exhaust system, including resonators. The resonators were rusted through in 3 years and probably no more than 1,000 miles.

Did anyone put a drain hole in them?

Thanks for the input, and yes I was thinking of adding them but didn't want to spend the extra bucks that Accurate wants if they aren't really needed. That's why I asked the question about the '71 Charger R/T. If the '71 R/T didn't have them, did Ma Mopar learn something or did folks complain about a drone at some RPM's that led to there incorporation in the '73 and after. I wasn't the original owner but my '73 Charger Rallye didn't have them although it had a 340. I never noticed any drone driving it at cruising speeds.

You can always use glass packs unless you are going for correct appearance. If you are happy with it as is don't bother.

For whatever it's worth..... my best friend's A66 (70 340 challenger) has (or had) resonators. I honestly don't know if it still does. I suspect it does.
