Hello. I am looking to ask a restoration question. I am almost finished restoring my e brake bracket for my 69 charger. I bought the spring and bumper kit for the bracket. I found how to get the small spring installed for the ratchet but want to ask what people are using for a rivet to remove the rod to install the new spring and rubber grommet? This is the only way to install the spring and rubber is to drill out the rivet and reinstall something. What did anyone else do? Mine functions fine just wanting the new parts on it I paid for.

Not sure what you're asking but I slipped the spring over the rod without the T-Handle installed then inserted the plastic stop afterward. Then installed the T Handle. No need to drill the rivet out.

So the correct thing to do is take the plastic out of the bracket the rod slides through, remove the old spring, add the new one then put the new rubber grommet back into the bracket for the rod to slide on correct?

I wondered about that. The rubber seemed like it could fail and let the spring back through over time. Where do you get these? I did get the old spring out like it needs to be but did cut out the piece like you are showing me. Advice on location for a new one that fits?

This is what I have.

Those “bushings” in those kits are bogus. They’re just plain rubber grommets! I have the real deal - cost me about 20 cents each!!!

Here's where I got them:
