Yesterday was my last day as Case Manager for a Surgical Oncology unit and a Trauma SICU at MetroHealth in Cleveland. A Level 1 Trauma hospital with 4 helicopters and 2 jets for Life Flight.
Anyway I'm off until Tues the 4th and have no assignment next week.
Already hired a new guy 2 months ago so he is ready to fly on his own.
I guess I'll do scut work for a few days next week.
Maybe I'll drop my daughter off at High school and roll in to work and leave after lunch.

30 yrs as an RN. Most all of it management of some type.
Assit Unit Manger 82 til 89. They eliminated AUM positon in 89.
Case Manager 96 til present.
Kent State BSN in 80.
Married since 84.
Time to reinvent myself.
Goin to take the summer off, go fishing, play some golf. Work on the house.
Repaint the 71 RR I hope.
Leaving my options open for the fall to find a part time job.
Maybe teach clinicals for LPN or RN's.
Maybe substitute in local schools.
Maybe go back to health care or NOT.
No cares or worries.
Life is GOOD!

Best of luck to you!!! I've got 33 years in;my second divorce made sure retirement was but a dream-for a while, anyway.

Take some time to turn off the brain and let things settle for a bit. That has remarkable recuperative power;you'll discover your path. Seems like a bit of mentoring in your future;I'd bet you feel obliged to do that. I think we all have that responsibility, regardless of our skills.

that's a long time in one field. i wish you the best in whatever you do.i've got 21 yrs in as a truck driver and 10 yrs b4 that as a cook/chef's assist.when i get ready to retire i know i plan on doing EVERYTHING that i never had time to do before.play with grandkids, work on cars, have fun with wife, work on cars,(did i mention that already).Good luck to you and yours.

Congrats Chris. Since my own quasi retirement, I've done the substitute teaching thing. Thought I'd give back to the community in a way. I really enjoy it, even though kids will be kids, and try to :censored: with a sub at every opportunity

He deserved every bit of enjoyment he gets as he has earned it. I oughta know - he's my big brother. Hope he doesn't reinvent himself TOO much, he's a great guy already. BTW, he forgot to mention he isn't even 55 yet! He is still young enough to enjoy things (even though one of his favorite activities is napping!)

I smell a road trip, Have a college buddy in Chicago, another in Georgia.
How about a road trip to Texas Greg. No psycho Witch business this time.
Hey Tem how about a face to face with Both B body, Road Runner brothers.

Good luck. You made me realize how screwed i am. 30 years at the same company that offers no retirement.I will work till i fall over and croak.I dont even like my job but with a family I never had the option of quitting to find myself. Always needed next weeks check. At least my kids never did without anything and were well fed and dressed. May never have retirement but at least I do have my pride.

I love a good road trip. Might be taking the Duster for a short drive real soon

Congraduations. Now why?
Don't seems like your that old from your description.

We want to hear the "psycho Witch" story. Please.please,please!:yes::yes: I've had a couple cross my path in life:black_eye:;I'm sure many of us have...another thread, another time.

I am blessed to be 54 and looking forward to the next phase of my life.
I realize just how fortunate I am.
I am considering helping out with Habitat for Humanity, or the local Free Clinic, or the Cancer support center. Give back a little too.
As far as Pyscho Witch; it's not my story to tell; not Tem's story either. I'm pretty sure he knew her better than I did. Let's say a mutual Mopar guy was involved.

Nobody is ever screwed up who works hard to support his family and do the right thing.
We are all on a different journey through life. I guess I took a short cut.

"Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" err "retired" LOL

Well it good to stay busy and to give back.

I'm in the same boat. I'm 46 and will be eligible to retire in 5 more years from the federal government. I'll be double dipping in pensions with my military retirement when I turn 60.
I really doubt I'll do it, but we'll see when that time comes. I like what I do, and the people I work with.

Besides, I less at work then I do at home.
Retiring would a death sentence for me with all the honey does that my side kick has lined up for me to do.

Beside that if I really had to spend 24 hours, 7 days a week with that women, I would be praying for a heart attack after 3 straight months. ha ha

Hard honest work is never a short cut. It just pays double. You did the right thing.
If you are thinking of doing habitat for humanity, homeless shelters can always use a little extra hand. If you want to be humbled quickly that is a good place to start.
Enjoy :)

WOO HOO you made it, now its time to do what you want. My dad retired from Boeing after 35 yrs. He is busier nwo than he was when he was working.

He was a Special Projects Engineer, about 4 months after he retired they asked him to come back as a consultant, for about twice as much as he was making when he was there, he said hell no, he is done. He is doing what he wants now. Stay usy and dont get bored.

Thanks for being on the team that patches up the rest of us idiots :black_eye:

I'm sure you earned every bit of your couch time and hope things go well for you.

I have the highest respect for anyone working and holding his/her own - regardless of how crappy other people think the job is.

Crap I married and divorced her (twice) She must have put a spell on me.
