Hello.

Iam restoring my 71 satellite and recently got a new transmission, it s 1967 a727.
The issue i now have is that the reverse lights are always on even when in drive because i figured i could try keeping the old neutral safety switch with the 3 prongs.

My question is which neutral safety switch do i need now to have my reverse light work properly

Will this relay work if i modify the connectors ?

Do i need to create a new wiring coming straight from the floorshifter?

I m sorry for asking some basic questions like this since i m not knowledgable in mechanics. If someone has the answer please talk to me like i m a 5 years old

Merry christmas to everyone

Is there any chance the wires are not hooked to the correct pins on the switch? The center pin is the neutral switch (to ground) and the outer pins activate the back up lights. Pull the plug and the back lights should go off. You can test the wiring without the switch by jumpering the outer wires together. You can test the switch using a digital meter by changing the gear selector.

The reverse light are turned off when the car is in park and in neutral.
But they go on the second i go in reverse, drive, 2 or first.

Sounds like you need to change the rooster comb to a 70 up one.

The rooster comb/switch is different. The easiest thing would be to swap the neutral saftey swith to the single pin. Then forget the back up lights. You could also swap in your old valve body and use the 3 pin switch. Swapping the rooster comb between years has a few other things to go with it and can get tricky.

Years ago I swapped in a 4 speed to my 66 Sport Fury. Just hooked up a toggle switch for the b/u lights.

So from what i understand I cant get the reverse light to function properly with my current nss.
Can i change anither rooster comb to have one that will work with 3 prongs? Are they interchangeables if i drop the valvebody ?
If i get a single prong nss how can i get the reverse light?

In order for the lights to be off i guess the switch on the 3prong need to be presses down right?

The simple fix is to use the single prong switch and just wire the backup lights to a toggle switch. To change the rooster comb you will need to find a 69-70 comb which will work on the early transmissions, a 71 up will also need the valve cover changed as well. Pictured below is a 69-70 left, 71 up on the right with corresponding valve covers. Might be easier to find a complete valve body than just the parts. 71 up would also provide part throttle kick down which your 67 valve body does not have. Have you dropped the pan and verify that you do in fact have a 67 valve body?
