So Cal
I would like to update my 65' Column.

Does anyone know how or of a kit that converts a standard Cable shift column to a full reverse manual and drops the "Park" function?

I'm looking to rebuild the column and change the detent and plastic indicator.

Thanks in advance,
Glen/DJ

You can send in your 65 valve body core in to A&A trans and they will convert it.
The detent you just file a new notch.............no kit that I know of.

What about the tail shaft housing? Is someone making the the shift indicators?

Bob Moser in Cal. restores originals and makes tribute cars of the A990 and Max Wedge cares and reproduces the reverse shift patterns indicators. He would never sell any parts only restore or build cars. The good news is I heard that someone else now makes and sells them, the bad news is I can't recall who.

Thanks for the replies...

The trans is not the challenge... just use a reverse manual valve body. The column is the problem.

Thanks 696 pack, but Bob wants a Grand to go through the column. I thought that was a bit pricy...

I know where to buy all the rebuild parts but not how to modify the detents. I think they just remove the reverse all together and just fabricate a new plate for the detent orfice on the bottom of the trans.

You can try crossramconnection. The website is not up but they have a contact number.I talked with his son who was also making indicators and in process of modifying columns.

I made the shift indicator myself from a piece of plexi and had the vinyl shop repo the letters backwards. Just take the orig out and trace it then get the arc for the gear selection. Left park in the trans and just didn't show it on the indicator. After all it's a clone and if you drive it, you need park.

That's a great idea Viper... I have heard of people using a Trophy shop to silk screen the letters/numbers on the plastic insert. My question though, is how do I modify the shift detents (when done correctly its acts like a slap stick only on the column) to correspond to the reverse manual valve body?

Take my advice. Don't remove the park pawl and/or the park provision from the trans if you are going to street drive. I did and regret it.

Thanks Wedgie....

That is what I have heard, I guess I could set it up and just leave off the "P" on the selector.

Appreciate the tip!

I dont remember which issue ,but mosher did show this set-up...and how to do it , in mopar muscle or mopar action.........It was just in the past 3 years. Sorry, I know that didnt help much, but it is in one of the mag's out there .

I drive mine on the street and just kept park. Trust me you'll need it.
