i have a 1971 charger i am restoring and i just found out how difficult it is to pick the proper matching rims and tires. I pretty much thought all i had to do was choose a rim of my liking slap a tire on there and call it good. But now i am finding out i need to know the backspace as well as the offset and a couple other things . I kinda understand the process but not enough to really make a thousand dollar decision. i am thinking of having 235/60/15 in the front and 275/60/15 in the rear anyone have any advice ?

I have a set of 15x8 all the way around but you can go with 7 on front and probably get away with 245 on the front. 275 will work great on the rear. 295 gives you a shorter tire and it doesnt look as good.

Keep in mind that the wheel needs to be pretty close to how wide the tire is. IE, if the tire has a 9" tread, the rim should be close to that. A 7" rim on a 275-60 is not a good choice. An 8" rim is better and a 9" rim is even better.

Hello,

this combination works without bodywork....

Front 15x8 BS 4,5 Offset 0 245/60/15

Rear 15x10 BS 5,5 Offset 0 275/60/15

On my 74 Satellite I have a set of Torque ThrustII's 15x8 (5 on 4.5/114.3mm backspace). Wrapped in BFG white letter T/A's 235/60r/15s. Look good. Fits fine.

Go with American Racing for sure. They look great and they are lighter. They are on the pricy side though. Mine are painted charcoal grey with a chrome lip.

Hey Dane,

A couple pictures and some info on the tire/wheel set up. Hope this helps.

First picture - My 71 with 15x8 rally rims and 245/60R15 tires

Next picture is a black 71 owned by Monkele on this site. It has 15x8 w/ 4.5 inch BS and 245/60/15 on the front. The rear has 15x10 w/ 5.5 inch BS and 275/60/15. The wheels are Centerline Legend Series Retro

The next picture is a blue charger owned by Jaak on this site. 15 x 8 Crager S/S with 4.5 inch backspacing on the front with 235/60/15 (Tires were Futura GLS (?) Sport) The Rears were 15 x 10, with 295/50/15.....I cant remember the back spacing on the rears, but for me wasn't enough. The rear wheels slightly stuck out from the wheel wells, probably needed another inch of back spacing....would have looked perfect.

One of my favorite looks is the last picture is of a car I ran across for sale - an orange charger with Stockton wheels. Stockton is out of business and the wheels are not avaliable unless you can find stock on hand at a former distributor (I have tried but can not find the 20 inch anywhere). The front set up is 18 x 7 4-1/4 Back Spacing – Rim Width 8 with 235/40/18 HankookVentus V4 ES H105 – Section Width 9.1
Rears are 20 x 8.5 (4 ¾ or) 5-1/4 Back Spacing – Rim Width 9.5 with 255/35/20 HankookVentus U4 ES H105 – Section Width 10

If anyone has a set of these 20 inch Stockton wheels for sale I would like to buy them.

Send us some pictures of car with the new wheels on it!!

Just went through this process myself... people on this board were very helpful in steering me towards the right wheels & tire size.

I ended up ordering 15 x 7 Mopar Rallyes by Wheel Vintiques from Summit Racing, and running Cooper Cobra 225 70 15's on all four.

Very happy with the wheels, the look, the handling. Good luck in your quest!
