RIP Lee Iacocca

To have made it to 94 is a good run. He was a real car guy and had good instincts when he was in charge of Ford & Chrysler.

RIP, sir! I read a couple of his books. He was a VERY smart guy, and really took a beating in the press over how he managed to save Chrysler from going belly up. AND the darn loan got re-paid! Most seem to forget about that.....
I'm not a big fan of the FWD Mopars, but they saved the day at the time. And I believe he helped bring in the Jeeps....

Rest In Peace!

Supposedly the last interview with Mr. Iacocca - Jay Leno's Garage:

If Ford had listened to Lee they would have built the K and the mini van.

I owe him a bunch!!! RIP!!

May he be in the presence of God for all eternity.
He saved Chrysler.
What an icon of the automotive industry.
RIP Lee Iacocca

He and the mini van saved Chrysler on one occasion. (Chrysler has had more than one close call.) He and Delorean were big time rivals and players in the Muscle car wars of the 60s. Both being restricted by parent corporate forces. (Though Iacoccoa was more of a corporate player and less of a rebel.) Thus a more successful outcome. (Again, not without his own close calls) But I'm willing to bet his design wars of the 50s-60s was his favorite times in his professional life. We may never see the likes of them. RIP.

A Favorite "establishment member" of mine.
Rest In Peace Mr. Iacocca

Years ago I used to house sit for Aunt Verna and Uncle Joe during their vacation. Not a bad Gig. Master bedroom was 25x20 with a huge fireplace. One year they had Iacocca's book on the night stand. I literally could not put it down. Was up till 4 am reading it. Woke up the next day, showered, ate, and...picked up the book. Read it in under 4 days, it was that good. Every mopar person should read it. Unlike the book on Bob Eaton that made me wanna puke, the way they just gave Chrysler away. RIP Lee.

My father worked at Chrysler as a carpenter. Iacocca came to St. Louis to visit the plant and he was given a picture. He later that day while walking around saw my dad and they started talking. While talking it was brought up that my dad was a carpenter and he asked my dad to replace the frame with a hand made frame that my dad should make. He sent the plant manager a picture of it hanging in his office and asked him to share it with my dad. My father was so proud that this man would take the time to honor my him with his work in his office. My father would tell that story till the day he died. God bless them both!!!
