Running great! Then......no start?

By the way, the main positive that gave me the trouble was also new and when I did the drop test, I only had 3 volts at the starter! Cable was bad

I had this happen as well but when mine did it the car would atleast click like it had a dead battery. Being it is completely unresponsive it may be elsewhere. Could def be a possiblity though for sure!

Mine was so bad I got nothing, not even a click. Not saying that's what it is because it's a process of elimination but you can't rule out anything without testing it. Just because it's new doesn't mean it works!

I agree, seems like everything you get today has crappy quality. Like I said at the beginning of this thread I had a new starter relay and the center terminal was loose just from putting the wire on and tightening the screw. Worked about 20 times, then just last week it stopped.

Wow man they make some junk now adays! Kinda figured that was the case.

Just got home, wiggled wires at the bulkhead, and starter relay, along with wires down to starter.....FIRED RIGHT UP!
Like a dummy, should have tried each one individualy, so i would know who the culprit is......guess i'll clean, tighten, replace all now!:realcrazy:
Thanks for all the help!

Good idea. Just a guess but two things come to mind.
1. Your standard trans starter relay gets its ground from its case and being bolted to the firewall. Check that.
2. Most likely, given the reputation of old Mopar bulkhead connectors, it was the yellow ignition lead (bulkhead terminal #3, Yellow, terminal "T"). It's a good time to inspect and clean all 3 connectors. Pay special attention to the larger Red and Black wires/connections in the middle connector. Look for signs of excessive heat. If possible, do a visual on the connector from inside also and don't forget the dielectric grease.

Actually, this car has an auto trans relay on it, with the extra ground wire running directly to neg battery terminal....once bulkhead connections are cleaned, do i put the grease right onto the terminals before reinstall?

dielectric grease

Like Bill Monk said, "dielectric" grease. Apply the dielectric grease directly on the terminals. A Q-tip works just fine. No need to over do it. Remember, if any spade terminal is badly corroded, so is its socket in the bulkhead terminal. They are a little harder to clean and avoid using too much pressure on that end. It could cause it to spread apart, resulting in a loose connection.

if your connections are loose, dielectric grease inside the terminals can impede the connection or make it worse. I pack the the outside of the bulkhead where the wires enter and a thin layer over the terminal face to seal out moisture.

To neaten this up I would shorten that wire, put a ring connector on it and run one of the mounting bolts through it.
It only needs to pull in the relay, we are not talking about a big current draw here.
Or buy the correct relay, they are pretty cheap from RockAuto...

I did buy the correct one (with no terminal forca ground)...just wasnt sure if the ground from mounting bolt was goodvenough?
