I have a few questions, but first the story....

I knew I was running on borrowed time with the ammeter set up in the '64 after i added all the electrical draw devices. Two rad. fans, One trans cooler fan, Electric fuel pump, EFI ECU, MSD... and so on. Had a factory rated 45A alternator, Electronic Voltage Regulator running through a new, stock wiring harness Ever since first fire, the Ammeter in the dash would peg and stay there. By my quick calcs. the components are calling for about 65-70 amps not counting head lights, radio, brake lights, turn signals, etc... Well, coming back from a short trip yesterday the ammeter finally gave up the ghost and I saw it's soul leave my dash in a slow stream of white smoke, only thing that remains is a discolored dial face and a dead needle. Expected... It was my last planned trip before winterizing anyway. It's time to upgrade to a 90A alternator, necessary wiring, fuseable links, and change out to a Volt meter (in place of Ammeter). That will be one of this winters projects.

I'll start a start to finish thread once I have all the info and parts. If there is already one, please post the link.

I read through some posts here and read Mad Electrical's article regarding bypassing the ammeter however; what I didn't find was a suggested volt meter for this install for the '64 dash. I didn't really expect to since that would be very specific.

Here's the questions;

Does anybody have a lead for a volt meter that could be installed in the '64 Dodge dash position and with the correct paint (I have) look stock?

I had planned on sending the cluster to Redline in California for a freshen up but honestly, everything else works fine and I'm probably skilled enough to make the swap myself.

Let's say I find a gage that works; how does one tie into the circuit bypass in order to get a voltage reading?

Is there a different Electronic Voltage Regulator I need for the 90A alternator.

As always; Thanks in advance for the help.

I think you can just send the amp meter to Instrumentspecialties and they will repaint with factory correct paint as well as convert to a volt meter. If you have done the bypass from Mad Electrical, the two wires you spliced together will connect to the positive of your volt meter.
