Thank for the condolences
I don't want to turn this into a political rant or thread, there are enough of them... Recently I had to sell my long time project 68 RR dragracer, going on 14 months or so ago, then my other premo 479ci short block out of my current car another 68 RR HT project, to a friend at least, a bunch of old Max Wedge stuff I'v had for ever it seems, I do still have another really good engine, 383/390ci based, bullet proof internals, already installed, pretty much the same top end as the 479 & a different camshaft, just not the killer engine... I don't blame it on anyone really, well other than maybe Obamanomic's down turn economy, killing the little guys, "govt. regulations up the ***" to try to get any new business started, people/businesses not hiring because of uncertinty in the new mandated health care laws {and other Obamacare related issues scaring the **** out of all the elderly} or being able to get anything construction related done {stupid govt. regs & permitting costs}, the stupid lack of enforcing our current immigration laws killing the local labor force in construction at a minimum ... "Not really too much to bitch about"... Ok thats enough of the political ****... I have had a pretty good life so far, I really can't complain too much, I got to see almost all of the U.S. between racing for many years & work travel... Yes I have had to sell some stuff, it hurts some, but the filthy rich guy dosen't really effect me at all... Most of the times, I worked for a lot of the filthy rich guys doing construction on dealership improvements & their "honey do lists for their wives at their homes"... I was small time contracting for years before I hooked up with a large {125 facilities} automotive dealership group HG & FAA, I ended up working exclusively for them, 20+ years on & off, as a Facilities Manager & Construction Consultant, they were great to work for, I would submit costs for projects as long as I didn't get greedy & they would just say "do what ever the general managers wanted", sign off on almost every project, they would say "just keep everyone happy" business will take care of costs... Always paid on time, never any hassles, I didn't know how good I had it... I got tired & burned out from all of the traveling & started to play golf for a living, big mistake 3 years wasted, barely broke even, but I always wanted to try, so I can't blame it on anyone thing really... Here the construction industry in Ca. is pretty much all the big Construction outfits are almost all Mexicans labor force now "it seems like any way" or small independents doing small jobs, neither is hiring for any decent wages that I'm going to do construction work for... Construction was always my fall back occupation, I do have engineering back ground from school, but never worked as an engineer other than building aerial equipment, cranes, flatbeds, dumps, etc. for a couple of years, mainly did construction related work, carpentry, kitchen, bathrooms, commercial projects, restaurants, dealerships, retail stores, my homes & my Golf Pro Shop etc, just nothing lately & nothing that I see in the near future... "I don't want to see this turned into a political thread/rant please", I just wanted to vent a little about having to sell my toys/parts/cars & I figure the members here would understand...
It is a load of crap when you have to sell what you work so hard to obtain. I just closed my contracting business along with 3 other guys I know. We built some amazing structures and have some great credentials but that doesn't matter these days. People are too concerned with using the cheapest options around, even if they are operating illegally! Luckily I am now working for a company I formerly have done work for and they have lots of future work (a few years at least). God has still provided in these dark times for me/ us.
I had to sell a few of my cars as well (1968 4sp roadrunner, 1973 340 'cuda, and a 1970 panther pink 340 4sp 'cuda.). The 'cud's didn't hurt nearly as bad as the Roadrunner but maybe someday one will come back around.
I'm saddened for all you guys that are forced to sell your beloved cars and parts just to keep treading water.... and food on the table. Sure wish the high roller bankers, CEOs and politicians would have to make the same decisions we all have to!! But they'll probably just raise our taxes, steal more from social security, and take away funding from our men and women of the armed services so they can collect enough money so they won't have to.
OOPS..... I had a rant myself, almost got away from me!
Just know you are all better people than the ones that have put us here.
