SCORE - 426 Max Wedge Block

I currently have a 4.32 bore - 440 HP Block that I have been collecting parts for to put together a 545 inch Crower Stroker engine but I might have scored one for the home team.

I picked up this block on Friday for my 63 Sport Fury - Factory Super Stock project. I'm not going to use this block or put it in my car. It's going put it together as a rotating assemble short block and leave it on an engine stand in a plastic bag in my heated basement. To valuable to window this one because I plan to use my Super Stock as intended by the factory. RACE IT and see what we can break! I already have a Cross Ram Intake and Max Wedge Heads that I'm going to use on the Crower Engine. When and if the time comes to sell the car I'll offer the 426 short block in the trunk.

Very Cool! How close to the build date of your car is the build date on the block? My car has a factory replacement block and I am always looking for a motor with a date close to the car's.
 
Is the pad date stamped on your block? Is your car a factory Super Stock? A factory replacement 2406730 block I'd consider it correct no matter the date. I'm not a purest. I'm sure there isn't many factory built Super Stocks that still have there original engine if they where used as intended. RACED. My current 63 Sport Fury at one time before I owned it had a 426 Hemi in it after the Wedge seen the ghost.

I had a 64 Polara 500 factory Ramcharged daily driver. In the winter I'd put studded snow tires on the car. I street raced it and occasionally took to the track. It puffed the engine back in the early 80's. I replaced it with a 440 and the car when fasted. First run at the track with the 440 it broke the 8-3/4 rear and I replaced the rear with a Dana 60.

It was bought from a guy who knew a guy who knew I had a Super Stock.
 
I was told by the fact my data plate had the number 9 in the engine spot that I had a factory Max. The best part was when I received the info from Chrysler Historical in 2007 they decoded the number 9 as "Super Stock"! It was built as an 11:1 car and somewhere along the line the original owner broke the motor and ended up with a factory replacement block. I believe he was working at the dealership where he bought the car and if he blew it up early on the factory rep may have gotten him another block or short block even though there is the disclaimer tag in the glove box. The block number pad is not stamped. It is now built to 13 1/2:1 and I have the correct cylinder heads, date coded intake, 3705 carbs, a Chrysler 300J distributor, which is a story in itself, fenderwell headers and manual shift, reverse pattern TorqueFlite. Oh, and dated coded mufflers!
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great getting a real Max Wedge block. But since I already have a correct block the next Holy Grail for me is a correct dated block.
I know for sure my car was raced at Vargo and Decatur Rd. in Philly and probably Maple Grove and Atco. The original owner was an instructor at Pennco Tech in Bristol and pulled the motor and trans and ran it in a wagon body under Pennco's banner. He lived down the street in Croydon and always had interesting Mopars parked outside. I never saw Max cause I think he was in the garage in the back. He was getting divorced in 1976 and swapped everything from the wagon into my car. I am the third owner, I've owned the car since 1985, the second owner was one of the students at Pennco.
 
I am on the hunt for a block for my 62 Savoy
Was going to check out the one I mentioned

I used to go to Kempton for the flea market at the firehouse, I think, in March, I think. The last time I was there I set up on the snow! It's now in Hamburg, Yes?
 
What are your stampings on the block you picked up?
 
@dartforforty Where in South Jersey? You can see I'm in Mount Laurel. You can visit Max anytime but if you want to hear him run it's gotta be above 50 degrees! He hates the cold!

Your car sounds about right enough to me.

I raced my Polara at Atco. When I got tired of kicking everyone's *** who owned a Ford or Chevy in Hatboro we'd head to Decatur Rd. or Pottstown. I was going to Decatur Rd. with my brother in the early 70's. He had a 69 Z-28. My Sport Fury was an original California car so I do not know the entire history of the car. I know at one time it had a Hemi in it from the few past owners I've tracked down. My car has been swapped around every which way to find itself in my garage.
