Hi guys,

I just need a quick vent. It's either this of throwing my phone across the room and this is cheaper, so here it goes. Back in February I bought a new air compressor from Sears to help me with my restoration. At the end of July the compressor quit working. After doing some research I found out it had a 1 year warranty. I load up the compressor, grab my receipt, and head on back to Sears. They couldn't find any record of me buying my compressor. After alot of yelling and many managers later they found my compressor, sold to another guy with my phone number. I finally get everything straightened out and sent my compressor in for repair. Yesterday, after more than a month they finally call me back and tell me that it will be $130.00 to fix my compressor. I ask them why it's not covered under warranty? They can't find when I bought the compressor so it's not under warranty. This sounds vaguely familiar and the argument starts all over again. After about a half an hour debating if I bought the compressor or not they tell me they will have to get back with me. Arrrrrrrrrrggggggggggg!!!!! When and if I ever get this thing back I will think twice before ever buying anything from Sears again, their record keeping and customer service leaves something to be desired. Ok vent over.

Thanks

I hear you, man. Nobody likes incompetence.

Some items have a limited warranty through the reseller. In this case, Sears. You may have to contact the manufacturer for the 1 year warranty repair.

You could get a copy of your credit card or bank statement, unless you paid cash, and take that and your receipt to corporate level to complain.

Kind of sounds like the Kenmore kitchen appliances they sell. Very costly and hard to find parts for them. I for one will never buy another from them. I do like their hand tools though and have never had a problem with warranties on them.

Sounds like its youtube time.

Remember back to the '70s when the guy took his new Lincoln back to the dealer 100s of times never to have it fixed then finally in a fit of rage doused it with lighter fluid and set it on fire at the dealership?

When it gets bad enough, you'll know what to do.

How can they say they don't know when you purchased the unit when you produced the receipt???????????????????????????????????

When you buy something a Sears they ask you for you're phone number. My number comes up with 2 different names. I guess it's the last guy to have my number. When they sold me the compressor they sold it with his information and not mine. Sears doesn't ask to see a receipt because they already have your information on file. Thank god I keep all my receipts.

Sears is in Deep Decline. I don't think they will be here in 3 years. Service is terrible, Tool Quality is poor and they stand for nothing. O and appliances the worst!

Was that the guy who cut a hole in the roof and stuck a lemon tree in the front seat?

On another note, I was in a place no long ago and they asked for my phone number for warranty purposes. Sho'nuff 2 names popped up. Me and someone named Alvarez....

Well I like their hand tools too, but HAVE had problems with their so called lifetime warranties. I recently took back a broken tubing wrench, and three ratchets - 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". They wouldn't replace any of them, saying that they no longer had repair kits for them and didn't have identical items in their catalog. I don't buy from them any more.

bastages. their lifetime warranty didn't say unless we feeling like not honoring it and quit producing exact replicas to get out of it

I recently had a very bad experience with them over a riding mower. I'll buy elsewhere from now on

...nope, no lemon tree. He set the thing on fire(!) in the dealers lot. Just so tired of dealing with the dealer trying to get his top dollar new car's electrics to work properly that he poured lighter fluid on the interior and threw a match in it. It made the newspapers at the time, and was before lemon laws. I was just a kid, but it made an impression with me.

What you need to do is buy the same compressor new in box and then put the old one back in the box and return it for your money back the next day. problem solved. you will have your receipt No questions asked.

Sonny remembers "Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back" was written over every entry door at SearS:thebirdman:

sears can kiss my ask!

A lot of the big box stores piss me off. Sears has just been around a lot longer. Amazing to me that they are still in business. I guess that they are still riding that good reputation they had 40 or 50 years ago. I know a lot of people that absolutely refuse to step into a Sears.

I remember a picture , as I recall he parked in front of (where ever it is (Dearborn??)) the Ford main office.

Can I vent about Goodyear? My 2013 Challenger R/T developed a steering wheel vibration after about 1500 miles. Took the car to the Dodge dealer, first week in August. They said not our problem its tires. Next day go to the goodyear dealer PURCELL TIRE & RUBBER. They said it was cracked rotors, go back to dealer. Service manager said, yes we can replace the rotors under warranty. But they are out of stock. Two weeks later, rotors are replaced, vibration is still there. Dealer has me go to Gateway Tire, to have them do a load-force balancing. They find one tire so far out they can not balance the tire put it on the rear of the car. The vibration goes to the drive train. Return to Purcell Tire, they will replace the one tire, But it will be sometime in November before they can get a tire( 245/45ZR20) from their warehouse in Salt Lake City, and I'm close to Memphis, Tn. Purcell has made an offer to replace the tire with a different brand of tire for an addition $50/per tire. The 800 number help lines know me by name now. I call the Dodge and Goodyear lines each Monday and Friday asking about the tire. Now no one knows when the tire might get to me. I can not believe there is only one tire of that size in the world, and its in Salt Lake City.
Sorry, but every time I read about poor customer service. Purcell tire and Dodge comes up.

Plymouth63,I know what your saying! I bought 7 new HANKOOK tires for my trl from Purcell Tire in Fenton Mo. Hankook doesn't stand behind their tires!!! 2000 miles and 2 of them blew out Their reply is they were run flat.ist one sidewall split,no visible damage,2nd one went yesterday the thread separated from the sidewalls! Not going to bother trying to get a replacement!!! So everyone listen up DON'T BUY HANKOOK TIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure is a lot of piss poor service in our new "service based economy", isn't there?

On a positive note.

My craftsman riding mower, bought in 2005, is the best mower I've ever had. Not sure of actual manufacturer, but it's got a Kohler engine.

I also have a Kenmore dishwasher that's really a GE. Exceptionally easy to work on, and easy to get parts for (although I've had to do neither), as it's basically the same design since the 70's.

Several years ago (before the decline), I did have an issue returning a 3/8 ratchet that stripped.

The clerk took my mint condition tool, and instead of getting a new one from the shelf, went to the back room, and produced a pitted, dented, and gouged ratchet, that looked like it had been used as a hammer more than a ratchet, and then left out in the rain for a few decades. I had no choice but to accept it, as I needed to get my car back together. In hindsight, I should have probably started screaming at the top of my lungs about being ripped off until they gave me a new one just to shut me up.
