So, the time has come to get a valve job done, on a ...............79 Monte Carlo, ewwwwww.

My sons car, i make fun of it, but the little V6 has gone 190,000 miles. Must have suddenly dropped a seal as its really started smokin when you first start it up.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good machinest in the Seattle/Lynnwood area? Probably give him a lesson in engine rebuilding too

think i am gonna do it in the car myself, gotta quit being so lazy when it comes to GM.

X2

That's how I got my start many years ago. Dad said he would help me if I really needed it, but I had to do the work.

Same, found out the hard way to to not have your hand under the tire when you lowered the jack, havent made that mistake again in 30 yrs.

Reminds me of my dumbest tire changing mistake. Changing a rear tire with a bumper jack without blocking the front tires. Almost caught my hand between the bumper jack and the bumper when the car rolled forward. And the dumbest part was that I KNEW better... that the transmission in park and the parking brake don't stop anything in the front. Might have been okay if I had a sure grip diff...maybe, but as soon as that rear tire cleared the ground, 1 rear tire turned one way and the 1 on the other side went the other way, and away she went.

Happened to me too, on a new car though, stupid front wheel drive.

I was doing a brake job on a friends 1998 Ford Focus. It was a Automatic. I didnt have the parking brake on as i was needing to take the rear drums off to do the rears. I loosened all the lug nuts and started jacking the front.

My driveway has slight slope to it, start jacking up the front, and the wheel that is locked in Park cleard the ground and it rolled back off the jack, @%%^#@^%#

Dang it, those front ends on Focus cars are heavy, had to get a buddy to help lift the car to get the jack back under the engine cradle.:black_eye::black_eye:

dangerous stuff

Think that was bad, here is another not thinking before you do it story.

We were renting a house before we bought the one we are in. It had a really steep driveway, i hated it, it didnt level out till you got in the garage.

I was taking the instrument cluster out of my Scamp, of course you need to get the column out of the way.

So, i was under the dash, taking the speeo cable off and other things, then i took the bolts that held the column up, and of course, the gear selector, oopps, away i went, with myself under the dash, franticly trying to hit the brakes.:black_eye: funny now though:rolling: wonder what that looked like from outside the car.
