Been Out (almost permanently)

Text from FABO:

Welll guys I’ve had quite ride the past few months. Started toward the middle February. Got Flu A and wa pretty sick. Started feeling better however the wife got real sick and ended up in the hospital with double puenmonia. One evening after visiting my wife I decided to grab a bite to eat at a local. Midway during the mea I started feeling quizze so I headed home. About 0200 the next morning I started montezumas revenge from both ends. Real sick. By early morning it subsided and I fell asleep. Suddenly the doorbell rang and I jumped up to answer it. Big mistake. I took a few steps and down I went. Vertigo. I do remember my head hitting the floor. After a bit of time I managed to get back on the couch. I called my granddaughter and asked her to come over. Thinking it was food poiening I called the restaurant where I ate and talked to the manger. I then called 911. The paramedics showed and did their thing. They loaded me in the ambulance and off we went. They weee super busy with me. I noticed they had the jump start kit out so this can’t be good.

Anyway after that my mind is blank. Just remember the talking but that’s all
Apparently they took me for a CT scan and while I was in the tube I threw up, and aspirated. They took life saving measures and performed CPR for two minutes, I was revived and since Inhad fluid in my lungs I was put on a ventilator for four days. I was sedated after that. I do remember my son and granddaughter buts still foggy. I finally woke up in the ICU. I was transferred a few says later to the Stroke floor. Apparently in all this I had several strokes. My right arm was swollen because of fluid retention so the had me on IV Lasix. I peeded myself multipule times. ICU took out the carth. I was in that floor for seven days. They did an evaluation and it was decided they would send me to a rehab hospital. I was a mess, couldn’t stand or walk. This thing kicked my [censored].

After 23 days of rehab I’m at my sons place where he’s been helping my wife. I’m getting home health care.

Oh, when I was wretching out both ends it turns out it was mostly blood. Turns out I also had bleeding ulcers so the gastric doc took care of them. Turns out I took 3 units of blood.

Update

Well I’m out of the hospital. Spent 23 days learning how to walk. Since most of my time was spent in ICU on a ventilator I don’t have any memory after they closed the doors in the ambulance. Briefly, I had a bad fall, crashed and burned. I do remember that.Don’t know how long I laid there but was able to get back in the recliner. Once the paramedics showed I told them I hit my head.

Like I said don’t remember anything until I woke up in ICU. I woke up dangling from the ceiling. After yelling out some colorful expletives I found they were hoisting me from the bed to a chair. Just remember I was really thirsty and all they would give was Icechips. I spent another 5 days in ICU.

Wasn’t until they moved me to the stroke flor did my son shared what had happened. Because I told the paramedics I fell they immediately sent me for a CT scan. While I was in the machine I threw up blood and aspirated the fluids. I immediately coded, they cleared my airway and performed CPR for about two minutes. I was placed on a ventilator. All I can say is I didn’t have any near death experiences although I had some bizarre dreams and I could hear voices. My son told me I woke twice while on 9n the ventilator. I guess they put me back to sleep.

The rest of my visit in the ICU was uneventful. My stay on the stroke floor is another story.I’m
