Sheet metal trunk floor vs OEM

Hey guys so the trunk floor needs to be replaced on my 67 Satellite. I’ve found replacements for in the $400 range plus shipping. I was wondering what down sides if any were there to making a custom sheet metal trunk floor and using a fuel cell instead of the original gas tank besides being a lot cheaper in the long run.

Depends on what you plan on doing to the car. Show car, Get the pan. Drag car, sheet metal and fuel cell. The gas tank is not that expensive vs all the crap you need to go fuel cell. Looks like you already have the leaf springs relocated. So thats a plus. I myself would go with the AMD pan. But its not my car.
 
If you don't care about "stock appearance", go for it. I suspect repros will be available for a while should you sell the car to someone who wants to replace it. Just don't butcher it so bad that it can't be returned to stock appearing.

Yes sadly limited stuff available for the 66/67 B body cars. Believe me I have searched till i actually found the end of the internet.
 
Did you cut out the outer wheel houses? Inner wheel houses are the same from 66-70....outers are a 66-67 only and they are available through donor cars only. 2 door and 4 door outers are the same.
 
If you have to fab the wheel houses....keep going and fab the rest. It will be less expensive in the end.

I stayed with the "factory look" stuff but melded the years. I put a 69 Charger trunk floor in my 67 so I could use the narrower 68-70 tank and get the exhaust out the back after mini tubbing. That meant I had to get the 69 floor, cross brace, and fuel tank, tank straps and sending unit. I will have to create a custom fuel filler to use the original 67 belvedere quarter panel fill location with the 69 tank.

Also consider if you do a full "factory" floor replacement that you have to do some surgery to get the full style pans in there...or go with the 2 piece pans. I pulled my tail lights and slotted the metal between the tail light opening and the trunk opening to create a 2" high window on both sides. The pan slid right in and I rewelded the pieces in that I cut out.

Just a FYI.... the outer wheelhouse is different between Dodge & Plymouth, outer quarter panel is different between models.
 
I replaced the center, dropped original piece in my 65 Belvedere with flat replacement (followed the original curve up the axle hump). I bead rolled it length wise and from the bottom it looks like it came from the factory. I added a fuel cell in the trunk and had plenty of space for exhaust below.

No I didn’t the guy before me was planing on making a race car and was probably going to fab them completely. Looks like I’m doing the same now.
 
In the end it really comes down to what look you want to have.

If you want it factory appearing it will take more money and you will have to do some searching for some nice outers. Staying with the 66-67 trunk pan will affect how the exhaust system gets routed if you want it to go out the back. The wheel tub storage depression in the pan and the gas tank run from frame rail to frame rail blocking any exhaust routing between the frame rails. The 66-67 cars ran exhaust directly below the frame rail but that area is now occupied by your springs.

If you are OK with the fabricated look and have the skills and tools it will be significantly less expensive. If you have to get someone to fabricate for you it will be somewhere in between.

I was told you could use a charger pan and eliminate the spare tire hold. Also someone on here posted a 67 trunk pan for 250.
