Did some searching on here trying to find where to get a shifter cable for my 65 Coronet. Car is floor shift. I'm replacing the small block with a big block and am going to use a 66 and up trans. I see Imperial services have a cable but several customer have had bad experiences with them. Does anyone else make an alternative? Thanks!

If you were running a 65 bb trans, I have both the shift and park cable console shift

If the trans is 66, or later, another option is to use shift linkage, doing away with the cables. That's what I did on my 64, with a console shift, put a 67 727 in it, and rigged up linkage.

This is as good as they come. Have had one on my car for four years and it works perfect:

Who made the floor shifter? If it's a later factory unit.....factory linkage. If it's aftermarket...mfr's cable.

I did this same swap. The item posted above is for kickdown/throttle pressure. You will need that, or the Lokar version. For a shifter, i went with a ratchet shifter under the console. Has been working great for years. Make sure you cover the shift cable with a heat sleeve. Otherwise you will be replacing the cable. I think others have used the Quicksilver shifter to fit under the console. The lever ratios are wrong with the stock shifter to later trans. I made it work, but it took some fabrication. But you're still stuck with a crappy stock shifter. That's why I went aftermarket. I don't mention the brand of my shifter because it's one for an overdrive chevy, that i paid $5 for.

My car is a factory bucket seat/ console car. I was thinking of using the stock shift assembly but when I shift the car into gear, I would have to go down an extra gear and then back up. I'm guessing parts may be wore out. The never did get driven any when I first got it. Started having problems with the 318. Now decided to go BB. Haven't thought about using another shifter unit.

All kinds of shifters out there to pick from. Just have to find one that fits. Mine, lol! Was already kinda in the car when I got it...slap-stick out of a 70ish Olds 442. Little work here, and there, and fits right in the stock console, and plate.

I installed a B&M Quicksilver shifter into my console on my 65 Plymouth. Had too many problems with the stock shifter and imperial conversion cable. I also have a 66 and newer transmission. I had to modify the underside of the console top plate. You cant tell the difference from the topside. It is a much stronger and better shifter. I found this modification on a forum on this website. good luck.
