Shipping large, heavy items across the country?

I had 2 fenders woth a grille & headlight bezels come from Tyler Texas to Mineola ny {long Island} for $125.00!!

Renewed hope in Fastenal!

Now I can't wait to call them on Monday.

Fortunately, both of the engines are short blocks, and the rear axle is minus the center section. So its heavy, but not as heavy as it could be.

I just shipped a crate from cleveland to huston via fedx freight, 155.00 382lbs

Some of you are saying what you shipped and for what it cost but are not saying who you shipped with.......

What usually kills the deal for me shipping by the dog is what I'm selling isn't very expensive and the time involved in taking it to the terminal isn't worth the time, gas and hassle. For instance, I have a nice trunk lid from a 67 Coronet for 75 bucks and when I tell a prospective buyer that I plan to charge for the time and gas it takes me to make the round trip (about 25 bucks), they say forget it. Geez....so I don't even advertise the big stuff anymore.

If you can build a skid that you can load in a PU then put your stuff into it and seal it and deliver to the shipper for dock to dock
so they can use a fork lift on it
they calculate space and weight and if you can not stack stuff on it they charge you with air space above it

so go armed with size and weight

Tell us the ins and out of this Hemi-itis.

What are their requirements and are they hard on parts?

What are their rules and packaging requirements?

Can the buyer arrange the shipping or does it all have to be done by the shipper?

If the buyer can arrange the shipping this may be a big help for people buying when dealing with a person who is shy or bothered about prepping and shipping.

I was lucky that James in Tyler Texas that sold me the parts was able to build a "crate" that would stand up on a skid pallet.Made it out of 1x1's and screwed thin ply & particle board to enclose. The fenders stood upright wrapped in bubble wrap, the grilles were also bubble wrapped and the headlight bezels were also bubble wrapped & boxed.
Brought the package to Fastenall where they wrapped it in plastic and strapped it to the pallet. No stacking on top of this:laughing6::laughing6:.Tyler has 2 locations for Fastenall and made it better for James. They shipped it to my local store in Mineola where I picked it up.
Unless you have an account with Fastenall, shipping is paid up front. There were no signs of getting beat up in transit.
I can see anything that fits on a pallet can ship. You can call your local store for in depth details.

Once again,Thanks James:angel3:

Since everyones talking about shipping. I'll ad in my info. I shipped two fenders WI to CA for $250. I used Transitsystems.com. You have to have everything boxed well and it has to be secured inside the box with peanuts or packing so nothing shifts or they wont take it.

I've used Craters & Freighters but not for auto parts. I shipped 14 data center computer cabinets ( 24"w x 40"d x 7'h )weighing about 4200 lbs in total from Phoenix to San Marcos. They came right to my site and put them all on pallets, wrapped them in cardboard sheeting, shrink wrap, strapped them to the pallets and hauled them away. Total cost was $2800 ... might be worth a call.

Those must have gone to my alma mater, Texas State University. Or I guess they could have gone to the high school, or Gary Job Corps.
