At some point these big shipping companies have to start stepping up & claim responsibilities for their actions !
It's sad when you do your ultimate best to pack fragile parts & they get destroyed in shipping !!
Now Canada Post is saying " no more damage ins."??? , ins. is just if things go missing !! Wait there's thieves, in the postal system ?????
Gets to be where you end up crossing your fingers for luck.
Sorry about the rant, any body else have a story ?

A picture of what UPS did to my NEW TKX Tremec...This is the thick piece of carboard that goes in the front of the box

... Nice pics of where the input hammered into it... I can only guess what happened... Summit exchanged it for me and I W/C the next one.. It was a 13 hour trip but well worth not dealing with another bad shipping experience..

That's 2 layers of 1/2" reinforced cardboard, each strapped with 1" glued on rigid foam, which the mldgs are sunken into and then multi layers of fiber reinforced tape & a piece of heavy 5/16 pegboard for the "go head and bend me factor !!! Again all wrapped in that fiber tape !!!! Took me an hour to put this together & I STILL HAVE TO CROSS MY FINGERS !!!

That's DISGUSTING !!!!!
I have to say that summit did me right. A pic of the 2nd transmission I W/C'd.... You can see how thick the cardboard in front of the input shaft is... UPS must have dropped the first trans on the end multiple times.. The transmission was loose in the box and upside down when I opened it, the reason for the 'impacts' on the cardboard being all over... The box was not perfect, but it was OK.. Why I accepted it without opening it....

I'm not blaming the packers here, I'm pointing the finger "directly" at the shippers !!

Nice trans by the way !!

I've been waiting 8 days now for a delivery from Fedex and my niece that lives close by(on same private road) has been waiting on Fedex as well for 9 days now. WTF! Blame on weather and the roads are clear! ruffcut FEDEX SUCKS!

I can honestly say I never bothered to check if CanadaPost covered damage or just loss. Personally I've never worried about damage to something I shipped because, like you, I pretty much make it damage-proof. My concern is always "loss".

As for shipping a trans, if I ever shipped anything that size and weight it would be in a wooden crate not a cardboard box regardless of how many layers there are AND it would be shipped with a freight company, not a courier !!

Last week, I watched a Fed Ex driver (not my normal driver) throw a motorcycle tire I ordered 25 feet up into my driveway from the door of the truck and drive away. Luckily I was working from home and saw it happen out the window because the tire rolled back down the driveway behind my Jeep.

I’ve had good luck with Canada post. Pack it well, it arrives on time or early, and no damage…

ordered a header panel from georgia had it shipped ups signed for it driver left as i was opening it had been bent over real bad then straightened back , phoned right away, at first they denied claim because i didnt show driver , then they said ok would cover claim , told me to scrap item they wouldnt sent truck to pu . believe it or not they sent refund to seller , when I caught their mistake 6 week later , the told me it was now between me and him . never got any answer from him ever , Ashole co. never used them again , fed ex or usps or global , and never a problem with any of them in 10 yrs . there I feel better on a Friday nite .

Agreed. Can't believe they ship a high-dollar and heavy item like that in cardboard. Amazing...

The "sender" is always the one to receive the settlement because it is they who insures the parcel. The only time this changes is if the buyer makes all the shipping arrangements - which is quite rare. I'm actually surprised they even took your call, usually they tell you to contact the seller because they have to file the claim.

You're talking about freight damage, and what about shipping costs? WTF has happened with those?

Unfortunately I've taken to throwing nice parts in the garbage these days. It's a shame but between buyers not realizing they have to pay for shipping and A-hole shipping companies I just don't want to waste my time with it anymore. That's the new reality I guess.

I also watched a FedEx drive stand about
20' from my front Deck & throw a package
it 'was only McCormick spices' several 20oz containers
& no real damage, just lil' dented plastic
but the handling by the delivery driver/lazy ****, was horrid
I reported it also
It was not the reg guy, he's not a whole lot better
it was some van with FedEx magnetic stickers on it
I assume a subcontractor

I never heard back from FedEx either

I hate FedEx,
whenever possible I ask to not use them

way too much **** goes lost or damaged
or way long wait times

I have no problems with our UPS & USPS deliveries ever

(DHL isn't much better than FedEx too)

Unless the seller subrogates rights to the buyer. I've done that before. Yes, bill of lading is Seller/shipper relationship.

We've received two different packages that
were just boxes filled with Styrofoam peanuts.
Obvious tampering with two layers of tape on
the seams. I've a feeling this will get much
worse as the holiday season wears on. Also
a few reports of porch pirates in our area.area.
