Sigh, Some people...

Wonder how far I can get with a Go Kart with that same engine?

when gas is getting unpayable in the US (like in Europe) you would be thankful to drive a economic car! To be mobil is very important.
I know I am talking about.

I agree in principal, but being the stubborn swede that i am, i wont compromise what i drive or where i live.

I would rather be happy with what i drive and enjoy it, so it makes the errand or what ever fun, instead of being a chore, and I would rather pay a little more for my house and be close to work, rather than spend 2+ hrs on my commute and be a grumpy house hater.

I can be home relaxing in my back yard having a beer and playing with my doggies 10 minutes after i leave the parking lot at work. I work with a guy that lives 70 miles away from our job. I couldnt do that commute each day, especially with the traffic around here. I did a 30 mile, 1.5 hr afternoon commute once and hated it, total waste of time and gas.

I agree but you can do better than the (I hate to even say it) Smart car. How about a VW Diesel? Don't those get something like 50 MPG? I was in Italy in 01 and there are tons of diesels on the road - and scooters. I was picked up from the air port in a Toyota Diesel station wagon and I didn't even know it was a diesel until the driver stopped for fuel. That guy had that thing pinned the whole way in to Rome.

If it ever comes to that point..I'll buy a damn horse, to hell with that tupperware!

My recommendation for that so called "car". Cut it in three pieces, and toss it in the garbage can.

Those things are mostly plastic. I would just tell him your car is a hybrid. It burns gas AND rubber.

Yeah, a friend of mine at work here has a newer Jetta TDI, i think he gets around 700 miles to a tank of gas.

When they first came out, or were sent to the states, i was working at a VW/Mazda/Subaru dealer.

They had one that drove from Colorado to Seattle on a tank, however far that is.

BTW: I agree with, but SMART is not the ugliest car. There are some french cars those are more uglier.
Could you image a gas price of 8 Dollars a gallon?

Diesel are very economic but a very high fee/tax and car insurance.

@rp23g7: yes, if I would live in the US, I wouldn't drive a Smart too, and the commuter point is right. I drive 60mls every day to my job. Horrible to imagine if I would drive a bis size engine car. ;-)

@MeepMeep: Yes, the Italians are crazy with their scooters. I was several times in south Italy (Sicily).

So I enjoy my expensive ride with 383 cui at weekends!

I bet you get a lot of "What the heck is that" looks. How to the people around there respond to muscle cars? Do you have to have them inspected by the government etc? Are licensing costs the same.

We'll just start offing all the enviro-nazis and start drillin the oil that's been found in Colorado, North Dakota, and Alaska

Rather than offing them, how about sending them to where the oil is and tell them to start dillin'?

Once they know what they will be doing they might just "off" themselves :rolling: Save us the trouble.

BTW: This is a FIAT minivan, this is ugly:

I dunno...maybe with a 6-71 popping out of the "hood"(on top of a 392 Hemi),a straight axle, chrome Halibrands with some fat slicks on the back and Denman radials on the front, driver positioned about a foot behind the "B" pillar;go for that '60's gasser look. Now that would be a smart car!

1 litre gas = 1,38 EUR
1 gallon = 3,7853 litre
3,7853 litre = 5,2237 EUR
5,2237 EUR = 7,32 USD

that makes: 1 gallon = 7,32 USD

It sounds like a nightmare but its the truth.

That sure has gone up!! Yep, in 2001 I think the gas in Italy was 2080 Lira/liter or whatever came out to about $3.78/gal. Many ride the train for commuting. There's even a law in Florence that says you can't drive your car into town after a certain hour on a certain day. Don't remember the details but no cars in the main city at times.

Can't send them out to the drillin fields, cause they'll just try to sabotage everything

My acclaim gets high 20's in town and low 40's highway... Top that smart car!
one fellow we all know and find to be a bit ODD, sold his 3 classic cars to buy a smart car and then brought it to shows touting it's awesomeness. Even ran it down the track for a blistering 23sec 1/4 mile... Anyway, after a year, he's decided he needs to buy back at least one car and he'll only use the smart for commuting.
That's what they are, good cars for IN TOWN commuting. Otherwise it would be downright dangerous. I do hate the eco idiots who have to throw in their $.02 about YOUR horrible fuel consumption habits.
These are the same people who buy new fuel efficient cars every 5 years and think it's great for the environment. Meanwhile their cars never outlive the carbon footprint of production. Whereas my 72 has LONG outlived it's production carbon footprint and that makes up for any amount of gas I will ever use.
Older cars are better for the environment because their environmental impact of production is over with, but heaven forbid they should see things with a broad view of the topic. They'd rather look at things through their narrow minded tunnel vision.

went on holiday in NY/Boston area in 2005.
Got me a rental car, pulled up to a gass station one evening, got to talk to the american guy across me who's was filling up his ride.
He was complaining about gas prices in US going on up....
I told him the same story as above, about the price for 1 liter of gas back at home , and how much liters/gallon, etc.
He couldn't believe it, asked me: I'm sure with that gas-price, nobody is drivin' a car out there.
I had to dissapoint him, some people drive 3 or more cars, I said.......

He looked me in the face, his mouth a bit open, and mumbling something about "crazy dutchmen".........

And I'm looking for a good 'ol american slurping V8...go figure.

About Italy: you pay tax at rato of your engine size...thebigger the engine, the more tax.that's a lot of tax with 5 or 7 liter engines with yours V8's. That's why there are so many small engines with turbo's.
