thinking of going for one of these overdrive transmissions in a 69 b body
has anyone here installed one?
any comments good or bad?

thanks for any replies

I've been reading into this transmission this morning - it looks really good. Street Muscle Mag also do an online review. I'd been considering a manual conversion for my car but this looks like just what I'm after.

SST will take care of you right if you decide to take the plunge.

if you do get a quote...look it over....then call them back in an hour or two and say you’ll take it today if they give you free shipping. make sure to look out for a $250 off sale they have from time to time. both discounts can add up to $500 savings

speak of the devil...the $250 sale is on for tko’s and A41’s

get the quote....sit on it for a bit...then negotiate the free shipping with them

I was thinking the other day. Could you have WilCap make an adapter and run a 200R4. Wouldn't that be a whole bunch cheaper?

Well in essence the A41 is a 4L65E transmission I believe... could just go to Quicktime and get their RM-9073 (BB) or RM-9071 (SB) and that will get you bolted up. Then get a FAST EZ-TCU for the trans... You'll obviously need some other things like a torque converter, flexplate, mod the trans crossmember, and driveshaft but overall... easy

Ya, It would be cheaper and more reliable getting a QT housing, EZ-TCU and a 4l80e.

Personally I would NEVER put a 4l60/4l65 in a car. I have seen 4l60s break way to often and catastrophically even under just 400hp. I just see no point in putting a trans in a car that might break from hard driving when a 4L80 from a junkyard can handle 1000+ with minimal freshening up at home.

unfortunately it seems that using a chevy transmission is the only
way to install it in a b body without tunnel surgery etc
is there any other alternatives

who build 518s suitable for street strip duty
is there anyone who makes a cross member for a b body
i was hoping that one of the trans shops would come up with a chrysler version

Cope or crt makes a 518 can't remember which 1 but 1 of them also sells a cross member to

Who builds?
I did c.a. 1995 still on the road 300k later
Transgo has the details
Early 518 with small early shaft use 92-95 diesel parts -straight cut gears, # of plates etc do NOT use 22 degree planagtaries (if these parts are available) else>>
later larger shaft 518 46RH > RE use guts from 47 find a core
for starters
use the transgo reprogramming kit, Big OD Spring, VB separator plate for back 2 second (no other way to do it)
there are obvious other parts like band support etc
everything has to work together like band lever ratio, servo etc Transgo can give you the details if you ask nice
open up the oil flow

I do not think you are going to get a 518 in without cutting
I would use a 4l80 not smaller trans with a BBM
anyone build an adapter and ECM for a 6 speed? had one in a motorhome- sweet trans USE CITGO QUATROSYN in GM (and built MOPAR) no DEX III or VI
