I have the opportunity to purchase a Sioux valve grinder. It appears to be in very good shape, hardly used I would say. Any idea what would be a good price to give for it? owner is looking for about $1350 U.S. for it. Obviously, acquisition for less would be the goal. Note, I am not looking to make a living with this. Just for personal use and I collect old tools and machinery.

In my opinion its priced fairly, especially if its Canadian $. Its not just the valve grinder - its the seat grinder too. I have a Sioux seat grinder but don't have a valve grinder. I either send those to my buddy or do them on my surface grinder.

I sold one a few years back, I don’t think I got more than a couple hundred. It wasn’t as nice though, but they are outdated

It's a nice rig for sure. Like said valve and seat grinder as well as the stone dresser. Tool box and a lot of stones and such as well. . I think $1350 is high retail. That's a pretty strong price. $750 + might be more like it.

If you decide you will get enough use out of it to justify the purchase, I think it is worth a grand. There is a lot of stones included there. That means a lot more nowdays then it did a few years ago. Look at the price of simple grinder discs or dremel bits.

Keep in mind there is likely no way it will go up in value, besides inflation, like for the stones.

I recently bought a near unused Sioux with cabinet similar to that one for $300 but it was missing the correct seat grinder driver. But I see them regularly on marketplace in the $500 range. That one is nice looking and seems pretty complete but I wouldn't give more than $750 for it.

I have that very valve grinder in my shop. The machine looks to be in very good shape, I would say it is worth it. You may find one cheaper but in that condition, I would go for it. Don't know how much you will use it, or if that really matters in justifying the cost. Goodson Tools has new stones and a lot of parts to fit that machine. I have had mine for 20 years, and paid $1000.00 used back then. The only issue I really had was the oil pump for the valve grinder, it is driven by what looks like a Speedo cable, it broke and I had to rig up a different style pump.

That is kind of what I had in mind, a grand or less. It is about 150 miles away from me. I am using that in my negotiations.

Seems like it had been recently painted and detailed it up to market it for a sale.

I’m sure someone put some time into it.

Need to inspect its function and wear.

Do you need it to look pretty? Or just care about its function?

Lots of stones, dressing jig, pilots.. Nice equipment... If it's in as good of conditions as it appears I don't think the price is outta line... Cheaper is nice but it appears to be very complete & in good condition... Then again are you gonna use it? Or display it....
