Six Pack Fast Idle Setting

I have a '70 Plymouth with the 440/6.

The fast idle is about 2200-2300 RPM and that's too fast. How do I slow the fast idle speed? The manual says to bend the tang on the center carburetor choke. In which direction do I bend it and how do I bend it?

Also, what can be done to get the car to come down off fast idle more quickly?

The tang has a slot in it for a screw driver blade. Insert tool and twist away from the cam to lower speed. Make sure carb adjustments are correct and remember factory settings are middle of the road-they have to cover all sections of our climate so adjust to your needs.

Is your heatriser easy moving & working?

And is the heat cross over open or blocked?

Thank you, Mike 493 and Dave, I'll adjust that tang as you describe and take a look at the loading.

Heat crossover is open and working.

Sadly, the heat riser in the passenger side manifold is missing. I've not been able to find one at a reasonable price.

Take some tension off the choke coil is the only option then.

Mike 493, l looked at the tang, looks like I would stick a screwdriver in and then rotate it in a counter clockwise direction to move the tang away from the cam?

I suppose the amount of rotation/distance is a matter of trial and error?

The "tang" is the part of the fast idle assembly that contacts the plastic, stepped cam that sets the cold idle speed. It is rectangular with a slot punched in it. Twist it clockwise or counter clockwise to vary the cold engine speed.

I think if you check mended If you check the specifications,I think 2200 is recomit

If you check I think you will find 2200 is the recommended factory cold fast idle speed " if " everything else is adjusted properly and work as it should.
