Slicks...Radial or Bias ???

383man:

Could you give me a bit more detail on the slicks you are running...like actual part number, dimensions, and compound ??
What width rim are you running ?

Thanks

I have to look up the tire info when I get a chance and will let you know. I know they are Hoosier radial slicks 30 x 9 but I will find the rest of the info and post it. Ron

Thanks Ron;

I look forward to the info....I think I'll give them at try....It will lower my gearing a bit and I think the engine can still pull it......already have radial fronts so it should be more stable.....I'm also running 3400 lb super stock rear springs...

Alan:

Thanks for the input.....slicks are 8 months old, however they did sit in unheated trailer over the winter...don't know if that would affect them,...
Your point about track prep is valid...it may not be very good since my three trips there have been on TNT days....there is a nostalgia drag meet coming up in a couple of weeks and they will have to prep the track well for that..I'll see how it hooks then.

In the interim, I'm getting the impression that radial slicks are finicky and have a short life span...let me know what you find out about them...

Thanks
John

finally had the car out last w/end, and im impressed with the radial slick..new best in 60ft., 1/8 et. & 1/4 et.(changed a few things over winter..went from 83/4 to a dana60 and went from 4.10 gear to 4.56 and went 1 inch taller in slick size and obvioulsy the switch to radial slick) - unfortunately the driver was still in mid winter form, and i couldnt find the tree to save my butt...lol. i did have alittle issue with them wantin to spin..but it was in the heat of the day (90degrees, 3000 DA..and 125+ track temp.) not so sure that any slick, bias-ply or radial of any manufacturer wouldnt lose a little in the 60ft. in those conditions, so im not gonna put to much stock into that. i put 13 passes on it in 2 days and they seem to be all that i read they would be. as far as longevity ??..we'll have to see, i hope to get about the same amount of passes outa them as i did my old bias-ply hoosiers, but i have a feeling that is wishful thinkin. thats my update i told you i would give ya..hope it helps.

Thanks for your update Al.....Update from my end as follows:

1) Tried 29.5 X 30 Hoosier drag radials, hot day 22 lbs air, good burnout.....spun like crazy and had to back off as I was getting sideways..
Tried 19 psi...a bit better but not much...
Talked to a couple of pro car drivers and they were getting their usual 1.02 60 foot so track was well prepped....
2) Tried 29.3 X 10 Hoosier QTP's and car hooked just fine...but slower in 60 ft than original 28 inch tires.
3) Installed Caltracs and tried original 28" tires and car hooks great with 60 foot back where it was supposed to be

Unfortunately I only got 1 run in before trans shift cable came loose and then broke the outer...

Got rid of shifter and have installed a Cheetah SCS...

The track photographer took a video of my one run(lucky me LOL) and the entire car comes up about 4 inches with the caltracs and almost gets air under the left front tire....

Should get a bunch of runs in next weekend and I'll see how it works..

Thanks everyone for your input..
