I believe my harmonic balancer is slipping from the look of the keyway in relation with the "0" mark on the timing mark. If and when I replace it, do I need to balance my engine when replacing? Any recommendations as far as balancers. The engine is a mild 318. Upgrades include a 216* 454/454 crane mild cam, ld4b 4 barrel intake, and msd ignition all around.

Powerbond, PB1108N (stock),PB1108ST (street performance). Available at your local parts store.

Would either of these throw off the pulley alignment?. The last thing I want when replacing a balancer is to run into other issues. I think many can agree with this, with any parts replacement.

Maybe I am wrong but, keyway straight up and timing marks are to the side. I removed #1 plug and SLOWLY rotated engine(by hand) with a long thin screwdriver on top of piston till it stopped moving and checked to see how close to the mark it was. If it was off then only by a few degrees. I had thought it was way off by timing light. Rough and fast way to check, not exact but close enough to tell if you are in the ballpark.

You should be able to get a stock replacement ballancer... from where I don't know and they made several but the pulleys should all work I used a PRW for internal balance on my 67 318 and changed the timing cover to the '68 up one for the timing marks to line up I also have ac and have a balanced front pully I'm replacing with a solid one.... laying them out side by side the ballancer to ballancer is different and the pulleys to pulleys are different but the new complete to old complete setups line up real close and I may have to stack a washer or two on my mounting bolts to shim the pulleys out.... but how ever it works out the old ballancer and rubber parts can be sent out to be 're done.

No, they fit just fine, like the originals. I just put one on my engine, and the only difference was that the dust shield wouldn't go back on.

Look inside the back of the balancer, and you will find a dust shield. It presses on the snout, but is not completely necessary.
