Hey all...been amassing parts to wake up my 1969 318...love to hear your input.
Yes...I am fully aware of everyones opinion being everyones opinion.. so I will take no butt hurt from the responses, and everyone who says Stroke it or throw it away and start with a 360...yall can just zip it. This is low buck...some left over parts, some used, the rest discounted or severely discounted.

The starting point is very strong running unknown mileage 1969 318 numbers matching to its chassis and freshly rebuilt 904 (also with matching numbers).

The parts list
Used Edelbrock Performer heads fresh from the machine shop milled to 60cc with springs to match the
Voodoo 10200702 adv 265in 271ex/ @.050 220in 226ex/ lobe sep 112/recommended 108 install. .475in .494ex lift.
PRW stainless rollers 1.5 with B3 correction kit
.028 mr gasket head gaskets
Edelbrock performer intake (would have preferred the rpm..but couldn't find one)
One inch alloy spacer to fit the
Holley 3310 750vs
NOS electronic distributor, old orange box, new harness
New Patriot headers (only one that would fit P/S and column shift besides tti and Doug and not break the budget.)
Jegs 2.5 exhaust with chamber mufflers
180 t stat, clutch fan from late 440, 26in radiator.

That's about it...So...runner or dog? Yes this is an interim till my 440 is done. And all these parts are sitting on my shelf...disassembly starts next week...and unless I find the pistons significantly deeper than .036...or if I really missed something is how its gonna be...plus or minus.

Thanks

We're here too! LOL

Sounds like a recipe for a nice stout small block.

Sounds reasonable. Of course the week link is the short block. You are increasing the flow in and out and that's a good thing but will put more stress on the older bottom. Curious if you did a compression test? Other than that, you may find that 750 is a bit much and is probably going to run rich without a re-work. I know you said this is temporary so button her up and take her for a spin!

Love the Toth heads and similar setup (minus headers) on my daughters Duster 318. The heads make a huge difference along with Wiseco pistons at 9.5:1 vs the 7.8:1 my Coronet has with Sealed Power.

If your lower end is in good shape and I don’t care what the odometer says....
The 3 weak links are;

A possibly low compression on the dynamic side.
Stall converter may not be enough.
Rear gears and tire size unknown.
A possible 4th is the spacer. I doubt it, but it’s possible.

The Edelbrock Performer intake is better than you give it credit for. It fits within the rpm range of the cam and the build in general.
A 750 carb is not to much but it will need to be tuned well.

I see this working well with 2500 stall converter and 3.90’s on a 27 inch tire.

Get the initial timing and advance curve correct. A stock electronic distributor may not be the best for either/both of those timing event.

I'd put the cam in at 106ICL

Should run well with a good tune on it.

I think you have some good pieces there that should work. My only concern will be, as Rumblefish stated, is your compression ratio, static and dynamic. I think that will be what determines how it works. Yes cubic inches help, but there have been many combos thru the years in various small displacements (thinks 302's and 327's) that have worked fine. It's great to see a strong running 318. The good ol' workhorse for MoPar for many years. How many people used to say the 400 was a waste of iron? They'll all work great with the right combo.

Dynamic should be about 8.5...a 3.91 gear set is on my list.the converter is also on my list..and 28in tire.

As long as the pistons are where they should be (. 036 to .039 ) the calculators are saying static around 9.7-9.9

You could always have the block decked .020 or .025

ditto on the cam unless you are at max compression for your combo
use the 01 cam

I think the cam is a bit much. If not changing the cam get a higher stall like a 3500 or so Kim

IMO, depends on the converter and tire size.
I'm running a Hyd. roller @ 224/230 - 110 W/.538/.534 lift, 2400 stall, 3.55's and 26 X 10 sneakers.

Remember guys, The OP has a Teen in a 68 or 69 B body so you have a little weight to get moving. I agree it will need some converter and gear.

The compression is what you'll be fighting most of all (IMO) - you're dropping maybe 8cc from the head chamber - cam may be a bit aggressive but honeslty - it'll run just fine. You could always make more power by changing x or y but as long as the engine is reliable and gets you down the road that's the goal
