Nope. I left about 30% of the old wall still attached. Basically the parts which did not stick out past the basic surface of the wall. I am going to weld the panel to those remaining sections and all around the perimeter as well. HOTROD did a 69 Charger the same way but only spot welded around the edge and cleaned/leveled it with filler etc. I think i'll be ok doing it this way as the bits I left attached are still connected to the floor and cowl in several places. I did consider placing beads on it but couldn't come up with an attractive design that I could live with overall. I am also contemplating an American flag mural on it as the final covering. I invite anyone who may be interested to submit ideas for bead rolling this panel. Are you going to but any beads for strength?
I decided on that method because the inside will be covered with Dynamat / carpet anyway and it seemed the easiest way to solve the dilemma. I expect to cut a hole for the steering column, heat/A/C hoses way down the passenger side lower corner, and wiring loom at the opposite lower corner. Anything else will come through directly behind the engine at the bend leading to the tunnel. Wiper and M/C will be under dash.I was wondering what would keep it from flexing... Dig the mural idea!
Hmmmm......Bead roll the flag stripes. Give the mural a 3 dimensional look?
LOL! I was thinking the same thing, been trying to figure out a design to incorporate the stars....Bead roll the flag stripes. Give the mural a 3 dimensional look?
