...with temps pushing 70 degrees in the lower elevations, such as Knoxville (where I had to go to the office of my new gig today).
The unseasonably warm temperatures are in front of a wicked storm front that's been wreaking havoc on the southern states, including tornados.
The front will pass through here tonight as well.
But in the meantime....
I got back home from that couple hour drive in time to contemplate actually taking the GTX out for a quick drive, which would have been the first time since, well, you know what happened.
Unfortunately, other chores and such derailed that plan, but I did have enough time left to go through the cold start/let 'er run until she gets warmed up routine at least.
When she got to holding an idle on her own, I set about giving her a quick once-over with detailing spray, removing bug guts and such from the last time my wife and I took her out, probably a month or more ago.
About the time I got done with that, the GTX had reached her wintertime operating temp (about 160F despite a 180F thermostat) and sounded sweet, as only she can.
I kept working, head down, diligently getting stuff done....
I started after the car cover, a real nice one my wife got me for Christmas a while back, in order to officially put the GTX to bed for the winter - when it finally hit me:
I almost had to sell her - just recently, too. Some of you recall just how close it came to that.
Bam. There it was...
Well, the car cover stayed in the overhead rack and I spent a few minutes behind the wheel instead, just listening, observing, remembering all the episodes and struggles of bringing her back to life over the years - and yeah, from behind the wheel, I finally let go of all that tension and despair and anger that had built up from recent events.
When my wife arrived home shortly thereafter, she complimented me on the job I'd done grading our quarter mile long driveway, then realized something had happened.
She asked and I just pointed at the garage...
I didn't have to say anything else.
She understood.
