Hello all . Anybody know where you can get the good solvent base paint single stage or two stage. I’ve been out of it for 20 years painted with ppg clv on my GTX then. I’m in California no fun anymore have to get it somewhere out of my state.i need to do the B5 blue on my charger two stage.

what's the downside to water based basecoat? I've never used it, never had to.

I remember hearing solvent was out and water was in way back in 1990, but it never happened here.

does it not get the same urethane clear coat? does it suck for other reasons?

In some counties you can buy solvent based material. Do some research. As a hobbyist, you are not held to the same standards as a shop due to the amount of material used and VOC's generated. Vegas is an option. Also down near San Diego, there is a company that has a color library back to the early 1900's. I can get solvent based single or two stage for my 65 from them. They are primarily a mail order company currently. When I lived down there before, they were one of our sources for a body shop I ran for a bit. They have their own line of material plus some others.

I'm near Sacramento and I still use solvent based paint. The VOC count is down to 2.1 but it still seems to work fine. I painted 2 engines GoManGo this week....

I retired in November 2022.
Even when I was working, I had a few projects going on. I have no kids to look after. I am fortunate to have a very cool wife that never complains about the multiple car projects.

I see the internet auto paint company TCP global was mentioned . Ive used their single stage urethane for my last three restorations. Good paint for the money, I think.
The durability question is yet to be determined
