Sparta, TN 1963 Belvedere owner - 426

I recently bought a 1963 Plymouth Belvedere with either a 440 or 426 wedge that is wound WAY to tight for street use - ex street racer / drag strip car. I'm 72 years old, remember these cars from when they were NEW, raced against them. Always liked them. Hope to make my 1963 "streetable" this summer.

I can do Sonic block testing, been doing it since 1972. Also Magnaflux.

Any idea whatcha got spinning inside? Whoever built the mill wasn't going to let that beast go thirsty... looks like you have a garden hose for a fuel line.

Stamped 426 on block, Edelbrock heads, intake and carbs. Lunati cam, Arias Pistons, . . . . .

I looked at the stamping... could be a replacement block or someone got out the metal stamps. Take a look at the casting numbers located on the side of the block, this should correlate with the 426 stamping if not the 426 has a 4.25 dia. bore and the 440 has 4.32 dia. Both have 3.75 stroke. If your looking at taming the tiger for the street I would start with losing the dual quads and going with a single 4 barrel or opt out for the new EFI that's getting better and better everyday. Find out what your bump stick is and the overall compression of your engine. If your over 10:1 compression this is going to make tuning fun with todays gas-o-hol. If you don't want to tear into your engine to find the number on the cam you can always pull a valve cover and set up a dial indicator for actual lift. If its reading more than .550 lift your going to need a different bump stick for the street. IMO
I'm sure your going to get lots more advice here from the B body brethren...
