Speedometer gear housing

The seal on my 69 727 speedometer housing is leaking a few drops, if I pull it out is a lot of fluid going to come out or should I drain trans first?

Have a pan under it to catch what little fluid may come out.

You won't get a lot but you will get some. No need to drain the transmission. I think if you jack the back of the car up you'll hardly get any.
