I purchasesed the ssbc a156-1 disc brake kit and installed the calipers and rotors just fine but when i went to mount the power booster nothing seems to line up. The car was originally a manual drum car and the kit stated this kit would bolt right up to the car. The power booster included some brackets but they push the booster away from the firewall 2 inches. Even with the power drum brake backing plate nothing seems to line up. The holes are way off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You will need to enlarge the mointing holes if your ditching the brackets to mount it right to the firewall. If not, a call is in order to ssbc.

Gonna call ssbc. If im spending that much $ on a disc brake kit i would not expect to be modifying my firewall to make the booster mount

Call SSBC and ask for Greg Kuetter here is his direct line 1-716-407-0152. He is a really good guy and a mopar owner. Tell him James with PST referred you.

Thanks
James

I also had problems with SSBC, just tried to find out a part number.
They did not reply my mails at all (7 in total!!!) and everytime I was connected to the tech guy all I reached was the answering machine.

After 5 weeks (!!!!!) I was able to get the information I needed, I finally made Summit call them.

My experiences with SSBC are VERY annoying and their homepage is a pain, no part numbers.... nothing....search function does not work either.

Thanks for the help guys. Some company should make a true bolt on kit for these cars instead of us trying to piece together and mismatch parts. Frustrating !!!

There is......Check out James from PST on post #4. They have a full conversion kit to power disc and includes the factory style Bendix booster, Master, reinforcement plate and linkage rod. Calipers, spindles ect..ect...if need be as well. Only ones around I know that offers a true factory style bolt in kit.

Called ssbc tech. They told me i need a new booster and master cylinder. Anyone know where i can find a factory style power booster for disc brakes. Thanks

I have the same ssbc booster/master cylinder set up with the same adapter bracket mounted on my 71. Originally a 4 wheel manual drum car. Everything bolted up (barely). The fitment could have been better but it's in there. I haven't got mine on the road yet to test how the brakes feel and I'm concerned they will be too touchy because of using the original manul brake pedal with manual pedal ratio. (4 to 1 for manual, vs 6 to 1 for power).

But I did run into a 70 road runner at a car show a couple weeks ago with the exact same conversion set up and the owner loves it.

Do you have any pictures of your setup. Thanks

Got a setup from the ramman. Includes all the goodies and a lifetime warranty... Thanks guys

Here it is.

Here is another from inside. The rod isn't exactly centered in the original manual drum backing plate. This is the best I could get it, but it should work. The angle of the rod form the booster to the pedal isn't too bad.

What happened to ring of the rod, did you really cut it????? :worry:

It looks extremely dangerous!!!!

The cast iron brake cylinder will start to rust pretty soon, I painted mine before installation.
