Ok, got up this morning bound and determined to work on the car. Jacked up up and got the stands under it and did a few things that I wanted to do and figured I would install my new mini starter. I remember reading that a plastic guard had to be removed to allow it to move over far enough to line up....need some direction here...as of now I am longing for the old days!!:toothy5:

A photo would help, as there are some differences. Make sure you have a starter with a nose piece. Some of the mini's do not

Some of them are covered in molded plastic, and you may need to cut into it, but this is the general idea:

Thanks, back to the garage......mine has a metal nose piece.

Ok, starter is in although I am going to have to ding a header tube for a little more room. After I took the plastic insolator off it went right in. Thank you again!

Yer welcome. My understanding is that some of those starters can be "clocked" (rotate the housing.) I'm no expert on all the variances. While they all fit the engine, pretty much, there seems to be several manufacturers of them.

Red;I've got a '96 Dakota starter in mine, and not only did I remove the extra plastic piece,I had to remove about a half-inch off the larger stud that was left. I used some blue Loc-tite and a thin nut for that cable, and so far,so good.

I think the stud will be ok, doesn't seem real close to the block but thanks for the heads up....!

Also, if you need to clearance your header for clearance then you may also consider a starter blanket, header wrap in that area or both. Starters aren't too big on excessive heat. A metal heat shield on your header may also be an option.

Projects coming along great btw. It's gonna be a show stopper.
