I have a 1970 440 and I tried to put a mini/high torque starter on it and it hits the block so I was forced to use my stock starter. Is there a high torque or mini starter that I can use that is a bolt on without modifying the block or how do you go about modifying the block to use a high torque starter. Thanks,Eddie:eusa_pray:
 
When you say "it hits the block"' can you be a little more specific as to what and where it is coming in contact with your block. They are usually a good and easy fit. I have them on all my MOPARS and they didn't require any clearing or have any contact with the block...here to help...cr8crshr/Tuck
 
I did some minor grinding w a dremel on my HEMI. Not a BIG deal......
 
Sorry I didn't read your whole post earlier. I was just being a smart ***, didn't realize you didn't know, thought you just hit the wrong button. Is the body of the starter hitting or the solenoid? Maybe you can reclock it to rotate the solenoid? Rene'
 
I got a high torq starter from auto zone that looks like the original starter but dosent have that old chrysler sound.49.00 bucks
 
I bought my Big Blocks High torque starter from 440 Source. Also had to grind down a bit on the insulating resin for the copper terminal that the starter and solenoid stud protrude from. Just a tad of the copper as well. Works great. No heat sync issues with the Doug's 2" headers
 
Well when I put it on I couldn't get it to sit straight and when you tighten it down it wants to sit all cock eyed. It seems to be hitting the top side of the starter. What brand or make starter are you running.

Rene, it seems to be the starter hitting. I have heard that you need to grind a little in some cases to make it fit but personally I don't want to grind on the block.

Hey red 69 runner. Is that a stock looking starter in size or does it resemble a mini starter
 
The starter in my car is just a reman from the parts store. Got it for a '90 Dodge pickup with a 318.
You have to remove the terminal extensions and bolt the cables directly to the starter. No grinding on my application.

That was what I was going to suggest to you but this fine FBBO Member beat me to it. But he is correct that that piece is most likely causing the problem...

well guys I am in the process of sanding and buffing, you know the fun stuff LOL...As soon as I get a chance to pick up another starter and time to pull the header off I will give it another shot....Thanks Guys
