Hey Guys,

So looks like my starter went bad and I have to pull it.... I have a 1970 Roadrunner 383 4 speed with Hooker Competition Headers. How do I pull the starter? Blocked in from below. Looks like an opening from above but steering column looks to be in the way Factory OEM Starter not a Mini. Also should I go MINI in case this happens again or any other options?? Please respond Thanks

disconnect the battery....and the header has to be moved/removed......

I remove the torsion bar and take loose header on my 68 RT. Am also using a full sized starter. If it needs to be replaced again a mini may go in but right now O'Riely's has been replacing a lifetime starter when it goes. Am using MP headers. Removing the torsion bar may sound extreme but gains lots of space.

With the header loose and starter loose, some fanageling you should get it. I'd try that before loosening the torsion bar.

I found there was plenty of room while I had the tranny out. :icon_bounce:

loosen header, call the starter a few bad names, remove from bottom. don't forget to seal the header bolts when installing the header. good luck

Good tips from everybody drain radiator unhook battery remove shroud remove plugs remove header bolts remove starter bolts then remove r h motor mount bolt and and jack up. Tip on comp hooker headers take 3/8 closed wrench grind off about half the first tube on the left has a tight tube angle hope this helps. No power steering.

Take torsion bar out and take header loose. I have a mini starter that will go in next time.

Just my observation. I have very old hooker super comp headers, and a mini will not work with them. A header tube goes right thru were the mini solenoid wants to be.
This may or may not be the situation with the hooker comps.
Other than that, all the above is helpful. Drain the radiator, and loosen the header, then see what else needs to be done.
(Strangly enough, I can get the big starter in or out of my super comps, without loosening the header.)
