I would like to start my motor that is in the car with out using the dash wiring harness (dash out of the car). If how can I do this? I have started it before using the dash gauges and sitting them on the fender. I can't do that anymore because I got the dash all back together (is out of the car replacing floor pan) and don't want to take it apart. So can I somehow jump the safety switch on the firewall or what??

Thanks Mike

you need juice at the + side of the coil, and jump the starter relay

That's pretty much it if the rest of the wiring is still intact (ie. power to the relay etc.). If you go this route, it's a good idea to use a jumper with an alligator clip on the +battery end. Should something go wrong, you can yank the wire quickly to shut down the motor.

Thanks I though that it just need a full 12v to start and then it would go thru the dash. Then it would use less volts to keep it running. Someone told me that a time ago but maybe I just forgot some of it.

Thanks mike

I yard drive the 73 Charger all the time with no dash.

I felt I was gonna do it so much, I wired in a toggle switch for the coil lead, and put on a remote starter trigger switch.

No under hood harness, so I keep the battery on a trickle charrger.

...and the car also has no gas tank and no trunk floor. I have a 1 gal can on a 1x2 spanning the trunk.

clip to the ballast resistor if equipped, opposite side of the coil feed.disconnect the blue wire on the side you clip to so you dont feed the switch. Then you wont fry the coil or the points.

100% This ^^^^^^^^ If it's equipped with a ballast, then the coil and points or pickup are NOT supposed to see 12V. Good call devilish one.
