Hi all,

The car has me stumped.... I can't get it to to stay running. The car would just turn over and then pop when I held the gas to the floor.. It would run for 2 seconds and then die. I figured fuel related, but no.

Here is what I have done changed fuel filter, and pump, no change, it has good flow from the tank as evidenced by the 1/2 gallon of gas I. Emptied on the ground. I also have ruled out some ballast resister, coil, and distributor. I figured when it wasn't fuel it might be that, but still nothing, turns over and won't pop, until I disengage the key...

Car is my 1972 road runner with a rebuilt 440 in it.. It was running great the prevous week, and night and then this...

Any ideas, or thoughts would be great?

Thanks FBBO
Mike

Maybe check the floats on the carb.
Something similar happened to me and the secondary float somehow got miss adjusted and was just dripping fuel down the carb,

sounds electrical to me. is this Electronic Ignition? could be the ECU box , and/or bad ground. my duster did the same thing. I cleaned all the grounds , swapped out the box and it fired right up

Did you have the ballast resistor off recently? I know you said you ruled it out, but i had the same thing with my Satellite, i had the resistor on back words, in the factory service manual it shows 2 different ways it 2 separate diagrams. The car would crank start and then pop and die the minute you let go of the key.

It sounds like the voltage to the dist. is to low. Check the voltage with the key "on" . Then check voltage with engine turning over.
