Engine Turns Over For 20 Seconds, Then Stops

You are correct to assume my mechanical skills are a bit limited. I appreciate all the information given. The cables are new and everything is tight. I did put some gas down the carb and it seemed to fire up and wanted to keep going. Now I just have to address the starter issue.

Nobody here knows everything. We ALL started as newbies and learned over time.
I love to learn new things. I like finding better ways to fix or diagnose a problem.
Cheers.

The starter suddenly stopping after 20 seconds, and now continuing to be engaged after starting is not correct in any scenario. Why was the starter changed to begin with? Your opening post indicates that you changed quite a few things before reattempting to start the car. I approach things differently and operate under the assumption that if it's not broke don't fix it. If you want to change all these things, do it one at a time and test after each thing is changed. This is not meant to discourage you, it's just to help you to not go to far at one time. Take baby steps and replace individual parts one at a time.

I think you need to put the old start back in.
You can bench test with a loose battery and a set of jumper cables but be careful they do jump pretty hard.
It should kick out spins fast and quiet and then retract immediately when the power is removed.

Short bursts of cranking will eventually bring gas to the carb. Much easier on engine components than long bursts. You could connect a remote starter switch and test to see if the problem is in the wiring between the starter relay and ignition switch or elsewhere. If the problem does not repeat the trouble is on the other side of the main wiring connection at the firewall.
